Boat trip on Mekong delta Book a trip on a boat in the Mekong delta. You will visit small villages and see a floating market. The delta is huge and you although it is about 80 kilometres away from the sea it still has tides of about 1,5 meters.

14 April 2013

Cu Chi tunnels It is really impressive to see the tunnels which were built for defense against the US troops. You can even walk through one of the tunnels.

13 April 2013

Liberty Central Hotel This hotel is close to the night market which offers the typical flair of an Asian market. It is also in walking distance of the most interesting places in Saigon.
Excellent food The Lemongrass Saigon Restaurant offers excellent food together with an - again - fantastic view over the city.

Windy day If you experience a windy day you could practice yourself in flying a kite. These kites can be borrowed from the hotel.
Delicious dinner If you stay at this hotel you don't have to go out for dinner. It offers special dinners every day and you can also choose from the menu. The grill evening was great!
Cliff Villa If you book a cliff villa you have your own pool to relax. Just enjoy the beautiful view over the bay of Nha Trang.

11 April 2013

Oceanographic Institute If you don't have the possibility to go diving you can visit this institute and explore the sea world from this perspective. You can't compare it with a European or American aquarium but it gives a nice overview about the local fish.

10 April 2013

Diving school This a very nice and well organized diving school with friendly and competent dive masters. By boat we went to a diving resort and were able to experience two dives there. The equipment and the boat were good and the price was fair.

9 April 2013

Long Son Pagoda This pagoda has a huge Buddha statue as an extra attraction outside on a small hill. We were a little bit astonished about the Buddhist sign which is similar to the one the Nazis used, but then we learned that it is different as the swastika is rotated 45 degrees.

8 April 2013

Po Nagar Cham Tower This tower was built by one ethnic group and until today it is not clear how they were able to build it without cement. Fascinating architecture of long gone times.

7 April 2013

Perfect hotel! If you plan to relax a few days at the beach I can recommend this beautiful hotel. It is located outside from Nha Trang and has its own beach. We booked a cliff villa with a very own pool!

6 April 2013

Vinh Hung Emerald Resort Very nice and new hotel! It's located close to the city and you can easily walk into the centre. It just opened a few months before we arrived and luckily we got an upgrade as our room category was overbooked ;)
Floating lanterns Hoi An is beautiful by night and you can buy a small lantern and let it float on the river. When hundreds of this small lanterns float on the river, it creates a beautiful atmosphere and this activity happens quite often.
Hoi Van Pass Take the car from Hue to Hoi An and cross the Hoi-Van-Pass (don't take the tunnel). If you are lucky and it isn't foggy you will have a beautiful view over the bay.

5 April 2013

Camelia Hotel Hue Central Hotel close to the river. Nearby you find a lot of restaurants and massage salons. From the restaurant you have a beautiful view over the city.
Thien Mu Pagoda Visit this pagoda and learn about the first monk who set himself on fire in protest of his country's government.
Royal Palace You should visit the Royal Palace to get an imagination of the royal life of the past, when passing through.
Get your special beer opener After visiting the Old Royal Palace you should visit this special restaurant. The deafness of the owner is no handicap for a very special way of opening bottles. Definitely a special experience!

4 April 2013

Night train reservation When you make the reservation for the night train you should consider booking all four beds in the cabin to enjoy a little privacy! The train is very slow, but it was possible to sleep and therefore we didn't loose time on the trip.

3 April 2013

Night on a boat The best way to explore the Ha Long Bay is to book an overnight cruise. Victory cruises are very friendly and well organized. Although the boat looked like a ancient boat, the sails are only decoration and not in use.
Floating fishing village and Sung Sot cave The UNESCO World Natural Heritage Area is famous for the thousands of islands and is best explored with a cruise on a wooden junk boat. For the best experience, you should visit a floating fishing village and one of the caves.

2 April 2013

Water Puppet Theatre This famous Vietnamese theatre has a very long tradition and you can also listen to some original Vietnamese instruments there.
Temple of Literature This is the place of the first Vietnamese "University". Still today students come here to celebrate their final exams. When we were there we met a group of newly graduated students which celebrated their final exam.
Ngoc Son Temple This Temple is built on an island and is definitely worth seeing. As it is close to the Water Puppet Theatre you could easily combine this two attractions.
Ethnology Museum In this museum you can learn everything about the Vietnamese ethnic groups and their different styles of living. It is interesting that although the country is one of the last "communistic" countries in the world, a lot of the country's culture and past is shown in this beautiful museum.
One Pillar Pagoda Close to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum you should see the One pillar Pagoda.
Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Start your tour early in the morning at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum to avoid queues. For us it was fascinating to see the body of Ho buried in a glass coffin and the fact that the Vietnamese people still admire him. Surrounding the Mausoleum you find the House where Ho used to live and you can also see his cars.

1 April 2013

Flower Garden Hotel This hotel is located close to the city center. From there you can easily walk around and explore the center by foot.
Pho - Street kitchens When you take a walk in the city of Hanoi you should try the typical Pho at a "street kitchen". At first you might be a little bit afraid and wonder about the hygienic circumstances in these food stands, but once you try the delicious soup and other typical Vietnamese dishes you will forget about your doubts.
Original Red Bull On your way to Vietnam you can taste the Original Red Bull in Thailand: Krating Daeng. For an Austrian it is definitely interesting to see what Dietrich Mateschitz made out of it! ;)
