San Cristo (Mex) to Pana (Guat) - part 1 It's 5:15am & I'm quietly getting dressed, trying not to wake the other girls in my dorm. I put my pack outside the room the night before in preparation. I'm clumsy enough when I've had a full nights sleep! We left Hostel Puerta Viejo at 6:30. The shuttle was half an hour late. There were about 18 of us & we drove in convoy with another van. We stopped regularly for roadworks so it was safe to say that our 9 hour journey would take at least 10. I was stoked to spot the 2 aussie boys from Southwardbound screaming down the winding road on their bikes. Guatemala is very mountainous & I try not to think about how hard their lives are about to become. After a lunch stop we hit the border 7 hours after leaving SC. I had no issues on the Mexican side & I wasn't asked to pay an exit fee. The bus then drove us closer to the border crossing where we unloaded our bags & walked over the border. It's times like these that I wish I hadn't packed so much!

Isla Holbox Talk about charm! The magic of this place has to be experienced, no words can describe it... I took a 'speedboat' from Chiquilá & walked 10 mins to the other side of the island. The recent rain meant that the sandy roads were giant puddles. I arrived at Hostel Tribu & luckily they had a bed for me. Tribu is by far the best hostel on the island; they've really thought of everything! The long stretch of beach doesn't seem that special at first glance, but walk east & out to the sandbar you will find yourself with a postcard perfect view. I went on a kayak tour through Tribu. We silently slid down the island river to hang out with cocs, flamingos & heaps of other bird life. Make sure to explore the town especially after dark & check out the stunning murals that give life to many walls. Another highlight for me was sunset yoga on the Tribu rooftop every afternoon. Take me back to Holbox!
