Lynn's odyssey through United States

7 August 2015

I didn't write on Thursday so will combine yesterday and today, Friday, 8/7/15. Yesterday morning we left Salida, CO and headed to Colorado Springs via Manitou Springs. We arrived at Aunt Jody and Uncle Al Ernster's close to noon! It's always so nice to ride near Pikes Peak!!! We spent the afternoon and evening visiting and went out for Chinese at good restaurant they like to eat at. Cousin Joel came over to visit, as well. It was a good day hanging out with them and reminiscing about the good old days!! We left Colorado Springs about 10am our time and arrived into Winner, SD at 8pm. Yes, it was s long day but a good ride!! We walked over to the local Pizza Hut and had a pizza and a couple of beers. There are many bikes here at the Super 8 heading to Sturgis. We are glad that we are on our way home and not having to deal with the millions of bikers at the 75th rally! The pictures in FB are unbelievable!!! We are ready to get home tomorrow but glad we went I'm this trip!!!

5 August 2015

Today we left Cortez, CO, at 9:15 to head to Salida via Silverton and Gunnison. While it was only about 245 miles it took us all day - 9 hours - to go through the mountains! We arrived into Salida at 6:15pm. We did ride the Million Dollar Highway which was beautiful!! We stopped at a quaint mountain town, Ouray, where we had lunch. Gary is doing a great job driving all the curves going up and then back down!!! Of course, there are times when I'm a little scared when there are deep drop offs with no guard rails!!! Really? Why don't they put rails in?? The first photos are of Silverton which has a Harley store l. The rest are photos of Ouray and the restaurant we had lunch. We are relaxing now before we walk to an eatery and then back to our room for the night! Tomorrow's plan is to head to Manitou Springs and then to Colorado Springs to visit Ernster's!!!

4 August 2015

Today, Tuesday, we left Apache Junction, AZ at 9:00am and ended up in Cortez, CO. We showered and went to a local Mexican restaurant and gorged ourselves and now back at the motel waiting for it to be 9:00pm here so we can go to bed!!! Our journey today took a scenic ride through Payson, AZ, Gallup, NM, Shiprock, NM, and into Cortez, CO. It was a warm ride but at times scenic. The other time was pretty desolate!!! Tomorrow we head to Durango, CO and drive the $Million Dollar highway headed to the Colorado Springs area!! We are tired tonight so checking emails and will hit the hay soon!!! No report yesterday since we spent the day with Gary's sister, Betty. Had s good visit!! Good night and will post something tomorrow!

2 August 2015

These photos are from Sedona on our way to Apache Junction to visit Gary's sister, Betty. It began to warm up right while in Sedona and by the time we arrived into Apache Junction it was over 100 degrees! I'm glad we haven't had to ride in these hear too long!!! Sedona was beautiful and such a nice place. The rocks/mountains were unbelievable! We are having a good visit with Betty and her family. However it's very late right now and I must get to bed!!!

I see it auto corrected my last sentence. I meant to say I will post more tomorrow!!!
Spent several hours today at the Grand Canyon National Park. What a massive place!! There are many viewing sites, camping, hotels and an entire city. It would take several days to get your bearings! The canyon itself is absolutely gorgeous and I highly recommend everyone to visit! The only downside was it was quite cloudy and sprinkled the entire time we were there. We didn't get to see the beautiful colors but nonetheless it was amazing and we were very impressed!!! We are in Flagstaff tonight and had quite a time finding a room without paying close to $200/night. We were successful and snagged one of the last rooms at a newly remodeled Super 8! We are dinner at Outback and now ready to go to bed!! All that riding wears us out! We are off to Sedona in the morning to get our "zen" on!!! I'll posture tomorrow!!

31 July 2015

I missed writing yesterday, Friday, 7/31/15 so am sending photos of the scenery we saw for most of the day while driving another 600 miles!!! The rock formations are beautiful and the colors are gorgeous! We took a scenic ride through several canyons such as Boulder Canyon and Escalante Staircase which was well worth the extra hours! We arrived in Kanab, UT around 7pm and was exhausted! We ate delicious Mexican food at Escobar's and walked back to our motel and hit the hay! Today we don't have to ride so many miles since we are only 200 miles to the Grand Canyon. We plan to spend time there and then head to Sedona and check it out, too! The weather is beautiful! It goes from scorching hot to almost cold back to hot depending on the elevation! I hope to have some great pictures of the Grand Canyon later today!!! Stay tuned!
