Emily's adventure in France and Italy

19 April 2015

This trip was a life changing experience. I can't believe all our planning and preparation is over. I've always wanted to travel the world and this trip has got me started. Flying home was a long haul and I am exhausted but I had an amazing time and am happy to be back home with my family. I look forward to traveling again soon.

Capri was an amazing way to end off touring. The Blue Grotto was my favourite part, it was unbelievable. We went for lunch all as a group and had some time to look around and shop. Then we headed back on the boat to get on the Fantasia and drive back to Rome for our last sleep in Europe.

Today I made one of the best memories of this trip. Which was swimming in the Mediterranean in Sorrento while the sun went down. Earlier in the day travelled from Rome, went to a cameo workshop and toured Pompeii. After dinner we went across the street from our hotel to a cafe for cappuccinos and gelato. This was definitely one of my favourite days of the trip.

Getting to see the landmarks of Rome was really neat. I can't imagine what the coliseum was like during Roman times. I can't understand how people could have possibly built these things over 2000 years ago without machinery or electricity, just people. It's mind blowing. The Vatican and Sistine chapel were also incredible. Rome has a lot of history and I hope to come back one day and see more.

We traveled from Florence to Rome today, and on our way we stopped in Assisi. Assisi is different than anywhere else we've been so far because it was built on a hill. When we got to Rome we went to the Spanish steps, the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. The fountain is being restored right now which was really disappointing, but we still got to throw our coins in. The pantheon was good to see because it was a Roman temple turned into a Catholic Church.

We started our day off visiting a leather factory, followed by a walking tour of Florence. We saw a replica of the statue of David, standing in the position of the original. It was extremely windy so the best part was getting to be inside the church and out of the cold. We also went to Siena .

5 April 2015

Brittany's birthday! We went to Pisa on our way to Florence. We heard a sound demonstration and visited the baptistery. We looked around at the vendor stations in Pisa then got back on the Fantasia to go to Florence. After a short walk around Florence we went for a pizza dinner. The pizzas were almost too big for our plates. After dinner we went to our hotel in Signa, just outside Florence.

I'm in love with this area of France. Nice and Monaco are stunning. We went to a perfumery in Eze then continued on to Monaco to do some shopping. When we got back to Nice we had some free time and went down the the water. We walked to a cafe and on the way back we posed for a picture outside a fire hall, it was a lot of fun. I really enjoy everyone on this trip and am glad we all get along.

3 April 2015

Six hours on a train from Paris to Nice and it was well wort it. Our hotel room is cramped but outside it is extremely relaxed and spacious in comparison to Paris. The fast paced touring of Paris was not the most enjoyable for me, but this is. Being able to walk at a normal pace and look around is wonderful. Since it was Good Friday we got to watch a ceremony in the old part of Nice. On our way back to the hotel we ran through these fountains. After we got back we changed and went out again for cappuccinos, the man working at the restaurant had very limited English which made ordering and paying pretty difficult. Overall it was a great day.

2 April 2015

Another jam packed day in Paris. We were up at 7 and on the bus for a tour of the city by 8. Most of us slept right through the majority of the tour since we got back to the hotel late the night before and we're still adjusting to the time difference. We ended our tour at Versailles Palace. As huge as the palace is, it was still packed uncomfortably with people. The Hall of Mirrors was my favourite part of the palace. From Versailles we went back to Paris and got a little time to shop. Kalli, Mr.K and I ventured off to the less touristy shops and were able to find some pretty neat stuff. I didn't buy much because we were so rushed. After that we went for dinner. When we finished eating we took the metro to go on a river boat took.

1 April 2015

Today was busy. Lots of walking and no time for relaxing. We went to De Luvre, Notre Dame Cathedral, for dinner, and then to the Eiffel Tower. At the museum we got to see the Mona Lisa and me and Kalli took a selfie in front of it. Notre Dame was packed with people and still breathtakingly beautiful. At dinner one of waiters took a special interest in me, calling me beautiful... Which wouldn't have been a big deal if he wasn't 40+ years older than me. The Eiffel Tower on the other hand was wonderful. Looking out at the lights of the city from the top and up at the tower itself was amazing.

31 March 2015

About twelve hours travelling from Edmonton to Toronto and then Toronto to Paris. On our first flight I sat next to Kasia and Bailey. On the longer flight I sat with Brittany and Jessica. I tried to get some sleep on our flight to Paris but was not overly successful. We landed in Paris at 8:30 AM local time. The fact that the trip we have been planning for so long is here is sort of surreal. I can't wait to get started touring.
