My adventures in France!

20 September 2014

Making the best of the ferry home, though I don't want to leave! My French was finally improving-I'll have to go back...
We stopped in Pierrefonds on the way back, a fascinating little town with a medieval castle rebuilt in the 1850s-60s which looks like it's come straight out of a fairy tale. It's a beautiful place, where all the buildings seem to have an interesting history. It's also got some damn good ice cream shops :)

A trip to the Jardin des Plantes in the southwest of Paris - it's gorgeous, I highly recommend going there! Full of runners lucky enough to live near such a beautiful place.

Travelling to Paris on the TGV, and spending the evening in a Parisian bistro. The French know how to live :)
And we arrive in Paris. This really is the most beautiful city :)

Last night in Biarritz :( can't wait to return!
Cannot wait for my (well-earned) dinner by the Port Vieux.
Had my last surf session today :( - at least for the moment! It's so beautiful here, I don't want to leave.

THE BEST MEAL EVER - the Café du Commerce, Rue Gambetta, Biarritz. Go there. I don't think I've been this happy for months. I love this town, and it's not just because the Jurançon Sec is so divine.

Hello San Sebastiàn! We're in Basque country proper here.

Bienvenue à Biarritz! We arrived here a week ago and it's gone unbelievably fast. The town is in the most gorgeous and dramatic natural setting - look at those beaches! And the old port! - and the locals are wonderfully chilled and friendly, especially the intimidatingly cool, bronzed and beautiful surfer types on the Côte des Basques. The shopkeepers especially seem largely to spend their days stopping for a chat, a coffee and a smoke. It certainly wouldn't be too much of a chore to live here-I've even unconsciously started property hunting.
