We then made our way to the SantonDomingo church, where there was a private wedding taking place and a wedding band providing some background music. Also nearby a market was set up and among the goods being sold were alebrijes, clothing, jewelry and food. We strolled through the square taking in our first day in Oaxaca accompanied by ice cream (tres leches and nuez) and lots of rain! The clouds rolled in over the square slowly with a cool breeze and then the rain began to fall. Lightly and first and then full downpour with the streets turning to small rivers. We purchased an umbrella from a resourceful woman and made our way home.
After meeting Alfredo and Huitla at our Airbnb stay, he recommended us to head the Mercado Merced and try the food from Fonda Rosita. We searched for a while and found a open air dining area with a couple of restaurants. We paid $130 pesos for mole, chilaquiles and 2 beers. That's $8.
