Viaje de Ashlee a Nicaragua

21 April 2016

Playa Guasecate Forgot to mention... Getting back into a bit of a routine; some exercise and some spanish. It was a nice change of pace. The cute but crazy parrot that we met on our first day. He definitely had a mental illness, poor little dude. The seriously cute hermit crabs that we came across at dusk. So well camouflaged! Discovering that Nica has giant toads! The ability to make our own kickass smoothies ever day with fresh, delicious fruit. And TK feeling the bite of another tummy bug. On travel day again too!

Playa Guasacate y Popoyo The road in was dusty & dry; it was so hot & there was no ac in our teeny taxi. It was such a relief to see the Pacific Ocean & feel that the water was cold! So good! We stayed at Melting Elefante, a hostel with very interesting architecture & excellent staff. Every day was spent hopping from the ocean to the shower to escape the heat & then relaxing with a book or movie. Floating in the clear water in the beginner surfbreak near Magnific Rock watching the sky transform at sunset was a highlight. Walking for ages in the dark along the beach, tripping over rocks & stepping on thorns & then waiting an hour for sushi was not. The tuktuk ride home with a drunken Nicaraguan was an experience. We bought fresh fruit & veg from the local delivery trucks 'camiĆ³nes' & cooked most meals. We even cooked a corvina fish on the bbq. The banana & coffee smoothies from Dutchies were a winner & every day brought another stunning sunset. They really are unbeatable here...

First stop - Leon We visited Leon during the hottest time of the year and we spent most of our time trying to escape the heat. We were somewhat lucky in our a/c dorm at Barefoot Hostel, but I had to wear track pants & socks to keep myself from freezing. The boys went volcano boarding while the rest of us chilled. We arrived late the night before and I'd had very little sleep. In the evening we played beer pong. The Wining Wendy's vs Two for the Price of One, Rosie and I vs the twins. We almost kicked their butts... Marcus vomited all over the dorm floor early the next morning and we all took it easy the next day before an early night and transit to Laguna de Apoyo the following day.
