Day 19 Friday 2nd March Spent the morning at the motel then Lisa picked us up to visit the new house and a bit of mooching. Again went out for dinner in the evening

Day 18 Thursday 1st March Took bus and train into Wellington and spent a couple of hours in the Te Papa museum again. Went out to dinner with Dave and Lisa in the evening

Day 17 Wednesday 28th*February Crossed over Cook Straight on the 9am ferry in the luxury of the plus lounge. Handed Miss Adventure back and Lisa kindly picked us up and drove us back to hers for coffee. Stayed to say hello to Dave who had landed from his business trip to Geneva and the UK. Checked in at our motel down the road. Had an early evening walk on Paraparamaura beach before finding a roast takeaway place

Day 16 Tuesday 27th February Stopped in Blenheim on our way to Picton for our overnight stop before the ferry tomorrow. Did our final bits of shopping before laundry and housekeeping. Rain tonight

Day 15 Monday 26th February Left our campsite in Murchison and drove to Blenheim. Raining and windy drive. Decided not to stop there but drove south down the coast road to Marfells beach campsite - right on the beach front. Sun was out and had nice walk along the sand towards the lighthouse. Collected paua shells

Day 14 Sunday 25th Feb Plan was to drive to Kaikoura today but road was closed due to landslips so had to make a huge detour. Driving all day apart from brief breakfast and coffee stops ( Motunau beach & St Anne's Lagoon. Stopped overnight at motorhome Park outside Murchison

Day 13 Saturday 24th February Left campsite at Geraldine (lovely site) and drove 20 mins to Peel Forest for an awesome 2 hour trek, western style. Drove on to east coast stopping en route at a gorge for a walk. Not the best - hot and didn't take water with us. Overnighted at Waikuku.

Day 12 Friday 25th February Woke to the most amazing sunrise 🌅. Breakfasted en route in Oamuru, very pretty Victorian town on the coast. Had coffee stop at a pretty picnic spot with views to the mountains. Visited Timaru but wasn't so keen on that place. Decided to camp further up the coast at Geraldine - Nice campsite and 2 mins into town

Day 11 Breakfasted in Dunedin, bit of shopping. Drove round the other peninsula opposite, lunched and walked at the very tip. Lovely sandy beaches. Drove up the coast to Katiki. Best camping spot so far, right on the beach.... for free! Evening walk

21 February 2018

Day 10 Wednesday 21st February Set off cross country to the east coast. Stopped en route at Cromwell, an old gold mining town, repositioned old buildings set up as they would have been after old street flooded for a dam. Drove on over pretty deserted country apart from cows and sheep to Otago Penninsula. Visited the Albatross centre and saw the little blue penguins in the evening. Freedom camped by the roadside..... didn't sleep much!

Day 9 Tuesday 20th Feb Set the alarm this morning to get us away by 7 from Fox Glacier. Only encountered wind on the Haast estuary but had rain. Stopped for brunch by a lake. Would have been beautiful if not for the rain. Arrived Wanaka by midday. Had a snooze before going into town. Had pizza out. Still raining 😣

Day 8 Monday 19th February Enjoyed breakfast at the cafe in whose car park we overnighter then set off for Hokitika gorge. Cloudy so water wasn't as blue as it could have been but fabulous nonetheless. Lunched at a lake before reaching Franz Joseph Glacier. Walked in the rain to the viewpoint and back. Continued on to Fox Glacier and campsite for the night. Cyclone Gita supposedly on our heels! Early start required in the morning so not to get overtaken!

Day 7 Sunday 18th February Drove from the Abel Tasman southwards stopping at Murchison en route for lunch. Walked across NZ 's longest swingbridge, crossing back over the gorge on a tandem zip wire. Parked up in a cafe carpark near Hokitiki, ready for the gorge in the morning.

Day 5 - Friday 16th Feb Journeyed to the Abel Tasman National Park, stopping en route in Nelson. Nice place. Walked up to the 'Centre of NZ' and viewing Point. It was here in Nelson that the first game of NZ rugby was played. Drove on, arriving at campsite 2, Old McDonald's Farm. Had evening walk to the river

Day 4- Thursday 15th Feb Picked up Miss Adventure and crossed the Cook Straight to the South Island. Parked up in Picton for the night

Wednesday 14th Feb Day 3 - Took bus and train to Lisa's. Drove to Palmerston North and across hills via new house in Okiti

Day 2 - Lisa picked us up and we went to Mt Victoria viewing Point, on to Eastbourne and Day's Bay. Walked at Butterfly Creek. Amazing views

12 February 2018

Day one - took bus into Wellington. Looked round Te Papa museum, took cable car to Botanical Gardens, walked down to city. Visited Wellington museum, returned to hotel. Luggage arrived 😀
