Turkey: My First Solo-Backpacking Trip.

29 June 2014

My journey began long before my departure from Los Angeles. Confused and anxious, I was fortunate enough to have a community of amazing friends and family that took me into the work force right after college. As I'm not shy about my spirituality, I often say that God showed up and messed up all my plans (which is never a bad thing). My jobs didn't work out after a series of unfortunate events, but I had an opportunity to travel! I hadn't seen my parents in over 4 years since they moved back to Korea after their youngest son (me) went off to college. Upon searching for flights I had found a cheap one-way ticket via Turkish Airlines with a 10 hour layover in Istanbul. "10 hours? What the hell am I going to do for 10 hours in the airport?" With a mixture of hope and doubt, I called Turkish Airlines and asked them to extend my time in Turkey to two weeks. Bingo. I bought a backpack, packed my life for the next year-- and embarked on the biggest adventure of my life. Merhaba!
