Heading to Home Sweet Home!!!!!

8 June 2017

Rome fora day: great meal, pantheon, forum including prison where Peter and Paul were imprisoned. Walked from 9:00am to 8:30pm!😛
Stayed in Matera at Corte San Pietro B&B. Once was a cave home. Amazing place. Wonderful place..wonderful people! Mr. Ponte even gave me a terra-cotta roof tile that is over 300 years old. We're going to transform it into a sconce.

6 June 2017

Stayed in a trulli in Alberobello. Wonderful resort.

4 June 2017

Wonderful B&B in Agrigento!

2 June 2017

Sicilian vineyard. Sicily's oldest in this region. Large barrels in use since mid 1700s just retired just a few years ago. Now using chestnut to age their reds. Had tour and tasting with some beautiful foods from Sicily. Phenominal!!!! Bringing back a dessert wine processed by sun drying grapes on rocks for 20-30 days, individual hand selection of grapes to be processed and de-stemmed (sp?) by hand. Wonderful and delicious!
Taormina. 3rd century Greek theatre. Had concert there last night. How wonderful would that be!

1 June 2017

Fish is fresh! Wine is good and sunrise is beautiful!!!

31 May 2017

Salerno. Night train to Taormina. Taormina.

Walked from Ravello to Amalfi today....and do mean WALKED!!

29 May 2017

Magnificent meal overlooking the sea. Wonderful staff! And darn it, I forgot to photograph the seafood soup which was AMAZING!!!!
New dishes. Hand painted in Ravello Italy. Pompeii skeletons and view from our balcony
After check and wine tasting....Now resting on our balcony....ahhh...
In Ravello. Checked in to Hotel Palumbo, the 12th century palace turned hotel in 1875. Welcome drink on the balcony of the dining area overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta, Duomo in Positano. Above the main Altar is 13th century Byzantine Black Madonna and Child.

28 May 2017

Positano. Beautiful city, but CROWDED with tourists. Food...ehhh. Ready to travel to some smaller, quaint villages here on the Amalfi Coast.
Today we went with Luca to Pompei and Herculaneum. He was magnifico! So knowledgable and thorough. The ash from the explosion went as high as the stratosphere. Most of these photos are from Herculaneum, as most of Pompei are on my camera.

27 May 2017

Dinner and wine to end the day. We met a couple of women from Sarasota Fla. who were here to do a wedding. One was a photographer and the other did make-up and hair. They were a hoot!
Remains of persons trying to escape Herculaneum and remains of a carbonized boat that was found under water. So much fallout from Mt. Vesuvius that the sea was pushed out 1/3 of a mile.
Lead pipes and an iron window
Remains of carbonized wood at Herculaneum..unbelievable!
One more thing about Luca. He is a beautiful man, inside and out. We fell in love with home..and he us:-) what a beautiful day to share with people from other worlds. Life can get no better than this!
The theatre at Pompei
Graffiti. From the Latin word to scratch.
Garden of an aristocrat
The Colosseum
The Colosseum
Garden of the fugatives. Buried alive while trying to escape
Grape vines from the seeds that were buried in Pompeii. Searching for the wine of these grapes. No luck yet.

26 May 2017

In Sorrento. Best seafood pasta you could imagine! EXHAUSTED! It's to bed now! Long day tomorrow at Pompeii and Herculeneum.
Naples...where Pizza was born. Margarita pizza was created for The Spanish queen, Margarita, when she was in Naples. It is the color of the Italian flag: (red-tomato, white-cheese and green-basil).
Antiquities from Pompeii and Herculeneum at the Museo de Archelogico in Naples.
