August 2017 our trip to Germany

5 September 2017

The trip I feel was a success. For David meeting & working with Kai for the two hatch days was very positive. The time David spent with Richard Bevies not only in the work place environment but also in the more relaxed setting of the hotel was a beneficial & hopefully a lasting friendship. The hatchery is set up for quantity not quality. The first days hatch as far a chick quality, was disappointing for David. The second days hatch was by far more pleasuring as far as David was concerned. Richard was observing & was quite happy with the outcome of both days. The chicks were processed, boxed & dispatched with every one happy with the results. A one off order for Kai that went very well. Both Kai & David were happy to work with each other 🀝 For both David & I it was a nice opportunity to see a small part of Germany! The people, scenery & hospitality made for a wonderful trip. I for one look forward to our next trip be it to the same place or new ground . Love Germany πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ
WEDNESDAY 30 AUGUST We were up & out quickly with no possibility of breakfast this morning. It was far to early! πŸ˜‘ The drive over to Berlin was trouble free. We did how ever have a little difficulty finding the hire car drop off? When we did find it our timing was spot on. There were only two cars in front of us to be accepted, but they were taking ages to do the paper work. But the cars were banking up behind us! & people were getting very frustrated. We got sorted efficiently, though there was a problem with a mark on one of the wheels. We had to go to the office to sort this out. But we had plenty of time so it was not a problem. The flight was not too bad. I dozed most of the flight, so the time passed easily. Davids car was waiting at the airport. So it was a swift escape from the airport & a quick drive back to Lussac. David had to make a quick visit to the office. I got the packing ready to put in the car for tomorrows journey back to the UK. We had a quick light supper & be
TUESDAY 29 AUGUST David & Richard were up & out early this morning, but did manage to grab coffee & croissant before they left! β˜•οΈπŸ₯ My morning started a little later with a nice breakfast & a stroll into town. I did think I would try to get a pedicure but this ended up being a little easy than I predicted πŸ˜‚ I did manage to make an appointment but the timings ended up not being convenient so it didn't happen. I did have a lovely morning wandering round the shops & the weather was lovely β˜€οΈ David arrived back at the hotel & had a power nap as he had done yesterday. Then we headed down to the restaurant to have dinner with Richard again 🍴🍸 It was a nice meal again & the conversation was fun. He had some hilarious stories to tell! πŸ˜‚ We had a good evening with him. David & I had an early start in the morning, so it was off to bed & alarm on πŸ•“ We were not expecting an problems but are always on the cautious side. It was a 2 & 1/2 hour drive but we allowed 3 hours. X

MONDAY 28 AUGUST David was up early, too early for breakfast. He met Richard Bevis in reception & took him over to the hatchery. I got up a little later, had breakfast & headed off into town. It was a beautiful sunny summers day. Most of the shops were open today. So I could spend the morning rummaging round till my feet could stand it no more. I picked up some bits & pieces to take back home for the children. The things on offer were a little different to what I see in the UK & in France. So it was lovely looking at things a little different. I walked back up to the hotel & spent the rest of the afternoon on the balcony in the sunshine waiting for David to finish work. David had got on reasonably well with Richard & given they were working together & staying in the same hotel is was only reasonable that we all ate together. We had a lovely meal & conversation. David & Richard had another early morning tomorrow so we headed off to bed reasonably early.
SUNDAY 27 AUGUST We had seen some stunning buildings & had a wonderful afternoon strolling round Dresden in the sunshine but it was to head back to the hotel. We have plenty of time for David to be ready for Kai to collect him & take him over to the hatchet to sort things out for tomorrow. πŸ“ David was picked up by Kai & was out for about 2 hours. The meeting went well & Kai was happy to take onboard Davids suggestions for the hatch procedures. So all is now looking good for tomorrow. πŸ“ After a full days activities we headed down to the restaurant for dinner. I tried the tomato & gin soup which David shared. For main David ordered steak πŸ‚ & I ordered chicken πŸ—πŸ΄πŸΈ Time for bed as David has a very early start tomorrow, a long day, a big day πŸ“X
SUNDAY 27 AUGUST We woke early this morning but took advantage of a lazy Sunday morning. We eventually went down to breakfast & once again our German breakfast was very good πŸ΄β˜•οΈπŸ³πŸ₯“πŸ§€πŸ™‚ David is going to be picked up by Kai at 4pm. We have plenty of time to drive over to Dresden to do a little sight seeing. It is only a 45 minute drive. The weather is pleasant & the drive is easy, even finding parking was ok. The city sits on the side of of a river with a range of vessels, ranging from small rafts ⛡️to large paddle steamers β›΄ Dresden is amazing! The buildings are jostling for prime position & the crown for the most magnificent. It is not just beauty that seems to be in contest but the sheer size of the buildings also are in competition for first prize. It is difficult to take in the grandeur of the city. Most of the centre is pedestrianised, it is just amazing to walk around & you find your self gasping every time you turn a corner. πŸ›πŸ•ŒπŸ•πŸ•‹β›ͺοΈπŸ›
SATURDAY 26 AUGUST While David took the call with Jessica I happily explored the little streets & shop windows which were full of very tempting goodies! πŸ“ΏπŸ’Ž The afternoon was totally delightful. Once we had had enough of the picture box delights we headed back to the hotel for a much deserved dinner & drink 🍴🍺🍸 We sat outside to enjoy the warm evening. We ordered a humans & salad starter to share. David ordered a club chicken sandwich with fries πŸ”& I ordered a tomato & mozzarella tagliatelle dish 🍝. The starter most definitely provided enough to share. Both main dishes were enjoyed very much 🍴A couple of drinks & we were ready to retire to our very adequate & spacious apartment 🏫 The balcony provides us with an amazing view of the town & the sunset. This evening we were also lucky enough to see an old steam train go by πŸš‚ & a display of fire works πŸŽ‡πŸŽ† A lovely sight as we were sitting on the balcony. The heat of the evening still with us & a glass of wine in our hand. Perfect
SATURDAY 26 AUGUST The first street we walked down was an explosion of colour & delight. It is so beautiful I would not have imagined that it was possible out side the world of make believe? As we walked down this street it opened onto a palatial cobbled square. The square was in proportion to the colossal buildings that surrounded this enclosed market place. The drama of the huge painted alpine buildings was enhanced by the fountains, cobbles & trees placed very precisely within the space. At the far side of the square & behind the main building there was another street at a right angle to the first street we walked down. This was just as impressive as the first. It was a little narrower but no less immaculate full of colourful summer flowers & brightly painted buildings. Most of the shops were closed. All the eateries were open. Beer, ice cream parlours, cake shops, bread shops, cafΓ©s & restaurants all satisfying happy customers. David had a call from Jessica about Roman Garage. X

26 August 2017

Saturday 26 August 2017 We woke having had a good nights sleep to rain. I think I heard it was raining through the night. But due to the new surroundings I couldn't work out what the noise was! β˜”οΈπŸ˜‚ Breakfast in the hotel was great. Eggs done to your liking & a wonderful selection of salmon, meats, cheese, fruit, bread, cereal & cake 🍴The coffee was good too, they even had brown crystal sugar! β˜•οΈ David is getting lots of calls & emails from Sheila & Kai discussing details for the hatches on Monday & Tuesday. So the morning is spent relaxing in the room. 11 O'clock the calls & emails had stoped, so we headed into town on foot. It did not take long & the stroll was pleasant. Wow, the town has been lifted right out of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! It is picture book beautiful. There is a wide pedestrian walk lined with stunningly tall alpine buildings. Each building is painted a different colour to the next. Each window on every building is overflowing with flowers dripping from window boxe

25 August 2017

David was approached months ago to help with a GO hatch in Hilbersdorf. So today after a lot of planning & booking flights, car & hotel we arrived for a 5 day trip. It was up at 5am. In the car at 5.30am. Arrive at Bordeaux airport at 6.30am. Easy jet depart at 8.10am. Arrive in Berlin at 11.30am to pick up a car & drive 2 hoursish to Freiberg. We stopped enroute to get food & water & use the insane bathroom!! The hotel is pretty good. Large, dated but clean & comfortable. We dropped the bags, then headed off to try & negotiate the town & hit the supermarket to get some water, beer, wine & snacks. By the time we got back it was time to get to the hotel restaurant for dinner. Cocktails 🍸& beer 🍺 David had steak & I had salmon. All was lovely with a good bottle of rosΓ©. Dessert was unusual. David had chocolate ravioli filled with soft almond paste with segments of orange bathed in a bath of semi sweet orange syrup. It was good. My pavlova on the other hand was shockingly bad. πŸ˜‚
