Catching up from being a few days behind.
Got to Madrid where we stayed with Donald (Michelle's friend from Collage). He was so nice to let us stay and show us around. Had an amazing time in Madrid, absolutely love this city (want to live here for awhile)! The food is amazing, the people are great, the city is beautiful and has so much to offer. Sad to leave.
Met up with Megan and Ben in Barcelona. Great to see familiar faces. We stayed in a great location right by La Ramble (the Main Street). The highlights were: seeing La Segrada Familia (unfortunately we weren't able to get tickets to go in), seeing other building designed by Gaudí, waking along the beach, visiting Parc Güell, visiting Hospital de La Santa Creu, and riding the gondola to Montjuïc Castle. Very interesting city but so touristy, definitely not as nice as I was told and expecting, but still had a great time.
Next up is Venice 🛶
30 June 2017
San Sebastián was incredible! Although the weather wasn't great we hiked up to a viewpoint over the bay. I've never seen anything like it. Got to see the famous Comb of the Wind sculptures here too.
Also falling in love with Pintxos which are like small pre made snacks that you can get at any restaurant and bar in Spain. (Also their beer is pretty great🙌 🍻)
Once we left San Sebastián we went to Bilbao where we stayed for 2 nights. We went through their main parks and gardens as well as the Guggenheim art museum, went to old town, then took a cable car to a peak which overlooked the city. We ate lots of Pintxos here as well. We also spent time exploring some near by towns and walking and enjoying their beautiful beaches. On the way back we stopped at the Vizcaya transport bridge.
Next stop, Madrid 🇪🇸!
28 June 2017
Bayonne was quite nice, my favourite thing there was seeing the stunning Roman Catholic Cathedral. The people there were very friendly and the food was great.
We did a day trip from Bayonne to the amazing costal city of Biarritz. The beaches and rocks were beautiful. Great city to walk around and explore. Ended up walking 20km back on the beach and river side to Bayonne at the end of the day.
Also the wine wasn't too bad here either 🙌🍷🇫🇷 .
27 June 2017
Bordeaux was great, met up with Michelle who I met in Scotland.
The wine was delicious and got to visit the wine museum and learn about its history in Bordeaux. Also visited 2 main cathedrals, Place de la Bourse, La Mirror d'Eau (which was not as spectacular as it was cracked up too be), and Porte de Bourgogne.
Stumbled upon a guy spray painting La Monument aux Girondins with Islam words in the middle of the day. The police eventually came and shut down the area, which was kind of scary.
Now we are off to Bayonne and Biarritz for a few days before heading to Spain.
14 June 2017
Going back a few week trying to catch up.
Great to arrive in France (Caen) and being able to practice my French.
Explored around Caen, and got to see the Chateau and went to a D-day cemetery.
Then got a ride to Rennes, where I stayed for 2 nights. Rennes was very beautiful and such a fun city.
Following Rennes I went to my workaway which was just outside La Roche-Sur-Yon (photo of the wood and chickens, chain sawing was one of my many tasks). Stayed with an amazing family and had a great experience. The food was incredible 🥘!
During my workaway I got to see Nantes and La Roche-Sur-Yon. After 10 days there I left for Bordeaux, but wish I could have stayed longer!
9 June 2017
Traveled through Wales (Fishguard and Cardiff) the past few day. Then checked out Bristol stopping at the Science Museum there (the graffiti), aswell at the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Following that I arrived in Bath where I went to the Roman Baths, Pulteney bridge and went to their beautiful parks. The city it's self was quite unique (cool umbrellas in the shopping district). Yesterday I went to Salisbury and got the opportunity to go see Stonehenge, which was amazing, although I wish public were around to go into the circle.
Last night was spent on a ferry to France where I had quite an uncomfortable sleep across 3 chairs. Exploring around Caen today and heading to Rennes in the evening.
3 June 2017
Went back to Glasgow on my way to the Belfast ferry (that's the famous "squinty bridge").
Once in Belfast I explored the city and went to the Titanic Museum. Also went on a tour the the Giants Causeway (which stopped at Bushmills distillery, a few castles (there are castles EVERYWHERE), and Carrick-a-rede rope bridge, unfortunately it was closed due to wind).
After Belfast I went to Dublin where I walked around and saw to different museums and historic sites, visited Guinness Storefront and finished my day off at Kilmanham Gaol before having a few more Guinness in the evening (by the way it tastes much better here!?!?).
Off to Fishguard, Wales tomorrow.
1 June 2017
The 3 Island tour was wet, foggy, and we had very rough boat ride, but was a great experience none the less. Got too see puffins and Fingal's cave on Staffa, walk around Iona and went on a bus tour through Mull. Met Alex on the tour and her and Ann were kind enough to give me a ride from Oban back too Glasgow today. Ann stopped at different places on the way around Loch Lomond so we could take in the scenery.
Just booked travel to Northern Ireland after I explore Glasgow tomorrow.
30 May 2017
Rented (or hired as they like to say here) a Mountain bike in Oban and went over to the Isle of Kerrera, beautiful place and the weather was perfect. So bizarre being beside all the sheep and having to wait for them to move (also means there was shit EVERYWHERE).
Booked a boat tour for tomorrow of the Isle of Mull, Iona and Staffa! Can't wait.
26 May 2017
Stirling was surprisingly one of my favourite places so far (considering I didn't know it existed 4 days ago). Went to Stirling Castle and hiked to Willy Wallace Monument. The people I met there were awesome, spent the past few days with Giovanni (in pic with me). Today we stopped in Falkirk too see the Kelpies (big horse statues), went water running in those big inflatable balls, and saw and went on the Falkirk Wheel, it was amazing to see the engineering masterpiece in person🙌!
24 May 2017
Had a great time in Edinburgh. Walked the Royal Mile and got to see the Castle, Calton Hill, The Palace of Holyroodhouse, Camera Obscura, and saw the worlds largest private scotch whisky collection as I went on a whisky tour and tasting. Off to Stirling tomorrow (because hostels are very expensive in big cities on weekends, and I didn't book in advance, oops). May go to the Highlands early next week to get the "true Scottish experience".
Also very excited to stop in Falkirk next week too see the Falkirk Wheel!
23 May 2017
York was beautiful(favourite city so far??), got to see the Minster, Shambles, Viking Museum, York Castle Museum (I am Museumed out lol), the City Walls, and went on a ghost walk in the evening. Now off to Edinburgh!
20 May 2017
Went to Liverpool to tour the Anfield pitch. Also got to see a few more museums and went to The Beatles Story. Today I am back in Manchester and went to watch Manchester United play Crystal Palace at Old Trafford. Great experience seeing a Premier League game, the atmosphere was amazing. Off to York tomorrow.
17 May 2017
Visited Warwick Castle, and made my way to Manchester. Went to Manchester Cathedral, Chetham's and John Rylands libraries, Museum of Science and Industry, The National Football Museum and ended off with a tour of Old Trafford, Manchester United's football pitch. Hopefully in a few days from now I will get to see a Man U play Crystal Palace there (I expect the stadium will be a bit more lively).
15 May 2017
Yesterday I visited Windsor Castle and Eton. Today I explored Oxford. Visited many collages (Christ Church, Magdalen, The Queen's, All Souls, Bodleian, Trinity and Balliol). Also went to Oxford Castle, The Covered Market, Car Fax Tower, St. Mary the Virgins Chapel, Blackwells (massive book store), The Bridge of Sighs, and the Museum of the History of Science (picture of "Einstien's Blackboard" from his lecture at Oxford).
P.S. Unfortunately I didn't see Harry Potter in the Christ Church Dining Hall (a.k.a The Great Hall from HP).
14 May 2017
Last day in London. Visited the Tower of London and got to see the Crown Jewels, went over Tower Bridge, went too Greenwich (I'm standing on both sides of the prime meridian), went to the National Maritime Museum, visited Harry at platform 9 and 3/4, and even got a taste of what's the come later in my trip by seeing Little Venice. Off to Windsor Castle in the morning!
12 May 2017
Days 2 and 3 in London went great, 1 more day to go and then off to Windsor and Oxford. Saw the changing of the guards at Buckingham, some cool stores (Hamleys, M&M world, Lego store (the telephone booth in the picture is made of all Lego), and Harrods), went on the London eye, toured Westminster Abbey (fun fact that's Isaac Newton's burial place inside the Abbey), went to the British Imperial War Museum, Tate Modern and walked Regents Park. The past 3 days I have walked 63.5km according to apple 🏃!
11 May 2017
I'd say my first day in London was a success 🙌! Saw Baker Street, Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus, The Mall, Buckingham Palace, Saint James Park, Westminster Abbey (didn't go in, that's tomorrow), Big Ben/Parliament, Trafalgar Square, The National Gallery, The Millennium Bridge, and more. Walked a lot and explored. Very beautiful city!
10 May 2017
EUROPE BOUND 🌎! Just have a foggy 10 hour layover in Newfoundland first. Many flights have been delayed or canceled, luckily mine wasn't 🙌.
