After an hour sailing across Mangrove Islands, we reached Mundro Island where we got off and trekked a little to reach inside a village. We were guided to see the making of coir ropes manually made by women of the village. Walking through the narrow, wet and muddy lanes where any faulty step could lead you to being thrown into water, was quite picturesque and serene to be there for a while. Before we got back to our boat, we had fresh coconut water and pulp to seal the end of the trip 🙂
P.S- After returning to our boat, everyone got to eat blueberry cake because a husband threw a surprise for his wife as it was her birthday today! Awwwww 🙂 16 or 60, the excitement for celebrations should never wither away with age !❤️
Staying in Ashtamudi is typically like staying on an island that is green everywhere. The boathouse ride today was the best ending to my trip here in Kerala. We got into this gorgeous and huge boathouse at 10:30 am and once it was filled with people (4 more- 2 elder couples), we sailed off to Mundro Island. The journey was more fun because we got to interact with the sailor on the boat. When he asked where we were from, he immediately got excited and tried speaking Odiya with us :) 14 years back, he was posted to Paradip Coast in Odisha for his work. There he picked up few Odiya words and a very old Odiya song that he sang :D We even got to click so many pictures and I drove a little. My tattoo finally found its inspiration <3
And day 6 is the last day of my trip. At 10:30am, we have our postponed boathouse tour plan happening today. Hope this goes well 😀
Have a nice day! 😘

Staying in a floating house feels like the house is breathing. Ever so little, the house moves with the ripples created by wind. Since yesterday, it has been raining and the water level has risen up. So the movement today is more noticeable. A breathing house... ⚓
Slight change of plans.
Looks like the boathouse ride requires at least 15 people for it to happen. Only my family has confirmed :p
So the activity may get postponed or cancelled. In the later case, we will just drive off to other boating services and enjoy rest of the day.
We finally found a good vegetarian restaurant 😀😀😀! Unfortunately, my family found it yesterday when I chose to stay home alone and watch 3 Idiots on tv😏 But now our meals are sorted, so cheers! 🍴🤗
I woke up at 8am and picked up the ringing telephone. So the resort activity center called up to give us details about a boathouse trip including a trek in two and half hours. So we shall leave at 10:30am and be back for lunch on land at 1pm.
Breakfast- Bread spread with peanut butter, cup noodles and tea.

I and my brother spent the evening cooling off at the swimming pool for some time. I enjoy swimming with my brother a lot :) Also, he is solely responsible for teaching me swimming before my Thailand trip two years back :P
P. S- What is your favorite way to spend quality time with your siblings? :D
Near to Thangassery lighthouse, almost 4 kms away, we next drove to Kollam beach and spent half an hour there. I barely could go near water since the lifeguards were proactive to use there whistle for warning 😕What exactly is the point of going to a beach if you can't soak yourself in salty and foamy water? :( In blazing heat at 3:30 pm, we ate ice creams and got back to our accommodation by 4:15 pm.
Today we got out of our house for lunch after 12:30 pm. After restaurant hunting for nearly 45 minutes (apparently, shops and restaurants are all closed on Sundays), we found a place and had South Indian vegetarian thali. Better than the disaster I had to eat yesterday night but still not up to mark. After finishing, we headed towards Thangasseri Point Lighthouse (Kollam). I have seen few lighthouses before, but this was magnificent. The lighthouse was well maintained inside and has an elevator to take up people and then you have to climb few steep stairs to be blown away by the view you get from the top. I was pretty impressed by the interiors of the lighthouse as well as the view I got of the Arabian Sea and Kollam town.
Yesterday night we had dinner in a restaurant that served food which tasted awful 😭! We went to a local supermarket and stuffed two full bags of cup noodles, bread, juices, dates and whatever we could get our hands on to eat while we stay afloat on water😏.
I am yet to see decent restaurants nearby. Pro tip- Don't order dishes that are not South Indian here. I was taken aback by the fact that the restaurant we ate in yesterday actually managed to screw up masala dosa (plus french fries, soup and crispy baby corn) 😕
Meanwhile, today we plan to visit Kollum beach after lunch. Taking it slow since there are not many places to go except enjoy houseboat rides and beaches.

After Kovalum beach, we straight went to Raahat restaurant and had masala dosas and lassi (it was way past lunch time) and packed dum chicken biryani and chicken fried rice for dinner in our room.
Once in room, we freshened up, went for night stroll and I got a chance to experience swigging in hammocks tied between two coconut trees. It was so beautiful to stare up at night under the lushness of trees and clouds. Sadly my camera couldn't capture my view. But those were moments where I wanted time to stop for a while.
The site surrounding near Neyyar Dam was under construction. The place had a park and a tower. Nothing much to see. We then concluded the day by visiting Kovalum beach. The beach was strictly under surveillance, so we barely got to go near water. Just had to wait for waves to wash ashore with our feet 💦🏖️
After we finished boating at 12:30 pm, we next went to see Neyyar Dam and Wildlife Sanctuary for lions, deer and crocodiles. I did not expect to see lions. But I did. So near, I could have taken selfie shots with those femmes fatale (I think I did inside the bus)! Two female lions, lazily napping and staring at our bus. Captured and injected to keep them inactive but not unconscious, it was a well-orchestrated ride :P But I never saw lions this close. Everyone on the bus was busy capturing shots from all possible angles including me. We then trekked our way into deep forests where we saw deer and crocodiles behind wired bars all in huge groups. Oh! We first had to cross all the way in a boat filled with 11 more passengers to reach the wildlife sanctuary site.
Day 2 continued...
So after breakfast, we headed towards Poovar Backwater boating that took 2 hours to complete. We sailed in a motorboat slow paced moving through lush green forests filled with coconuts and birds like kingfisher, pelicans and snake birds (yep, that is what our guide said). The weather was cloudy and the wind blew gently. We also stepped out on a beach that is the connecting point of Poovar backwater and Arabian sea that furiously crashed the shore. It was so windy there; sand slapping our faces and bare skin! We next had some garam pakodas and ginger teas (exorbitantly priced) from a floating restaurant and ate on our boat that sailed slowly towards our endpoint. Lush green forests, soft breeze and gentle sailing...
I finally reached Ashtamudi🙌
And my goodness, the floating house we booked for next 4 nights is beautiful beyond words! The 3.5 hours car drive from Poovar to Ashtamudi was exhausting; the weather is hot and humid plus I felt unwell (about which I will rant later) . Since today is a chill day, I will update day 2 details with a cup of hot cup noodles.
P. S- The photos cannot justify how breathtaking my view is right now. So I am sending you the live video of my room tour on WhatsApp. Check it out! 😀😘😎
Oops! 😳 I dozed off to sleep yesterday night after dinner.
BUT, Goodmorning! 😀
Today I will be leaving Poovar at 10am and we will shift to Ashtamudi, approximately 70kms away from here. On the way, we plan to visit a place or two left and chill in our next accommodation.
Hope your day goes great meanwhile! 😁
20 July 2018
Returned my room around 7:20pm after visiting three different places today. Straight away took shower and now I am getting ready to take a night walk before I stuff my tummy with dum chicken biryani that we packed for dinner😎.
Will catch up soon with today's itinerary and photos that came out gorgeous; late night with a cup of warm green tea🔜🍵

With a well rested night, I woke up at 8am and now I am off to have breakfast. The weather is gorgeous right now😍 There is clear sunlight but the gentle breeze is cool and fresh. Perfect! 👌💯

Done for today. 🤘
Off to sleep now. Goodnight folks😴!
My brother ordered a kids meal that consisted of cheese spaghetti, spring rolls, french fries and chocolate fudge. Dinner on bed that got over within minutes 😁
So we reached Trivandrum Airport at 4:05pm. It took us around one and half hours to reach Club Mahindra Poovar resort via car. On the way, we sat down at a restaurant for masala dosas and lassi🍴😀
Eating South Indian food feels like second homecoming to me, always😀
I terribly miss my kid (Bosco). But I am so glad to know that he has adjusted well with my relatives back in the village. His weakness for milk, mangoes and coconuts apparently is keeping him happy 😘
Meanwhile, how do you like to spend your time on board? I mostly keep listening to music and write random notes. Also, why does my family use deodorants and perfumes? 🤒 Whyyyyy😭 Note- I suffer from short breathlessness under strong smells; including car leather interiors, deodorants and perfumes that choke and many more.

We will reach Chennai airport at 2pm. So we plan to have our lunch and catch our next flight to Thiruvananthapuram at 4pm.
Well, my flight plan looks a little packed for the day so I don't think I would be touring places in Poovar tonight. But stoked about reaching my venue of accommodation for next 2 days🤘. Let's see how the day unwinds! 😎
Big day tomorrow! 😀
Feeling super excited and tired right now 😴
Goodnight peeps ❤️
