10/15. Slept all night long for the first time! Good breakfast, and then another city tour of Bordeaux. We saw the big sights, and then came back for lunch...carrot soup, tuna melt, stir fry steak, and a caramel creme dessert. Later we went up to take pictures, and I had to have a baclava and a macaron. There’s a captain’s cocktail party and then dinner.

First dessert onboard!
Dinner was fabulous tonight! I had a red wine risotto with a quail leg as a starter, then duck a l’orange, and finished with a chocolate millefeulle dessert—all yummy! We are really enjoying our new friends—Duane and Lois Fowler from Atlanta, and Duane 2 and Cinda Earbach from Florida.

10/13. After a good breakfast at the Hotel Belmont, we set off for Chenonceau. The weather was beautiful, but with a little fog, so the Loire River was beautiful! The women’s castle of Chenonceau is lovely, and in the most gorgeous bucolic setting! We not only toured the castle, but also on old carriage house, a duck pond, farm buildings and saw a few donkeys. We then drove to the old city of Amboise. We enjoyed it from the town. Ate lunch at a creperie where I had a salted caramel crepe with chattily and ice cream. Back to Tours, and had a quick orientation. Then returned to the hotel for a very quick nap. Out to dinner with Duanes 1 and 2 and Lois. We ate at a fancy gourmet restaurant called Charles Barrier—well-known French chef. I ordered tuna, and it turned out raw! I only ate the edges! Had to repack when we got back and will be at the boat tomorrow!!
10-13. Fabulous day exploring Chenonceau and Amboise!

Orleans and Chambord Chateau
10/12 Not a good night for sleep! Bill did better than I did, but he was restless, too! Had a terrific breakfast this morning at 6:30–in the wrong restaurant! We wondered why there were no Japanese tourists or guys wearing ball caps! We’re off in a few minutes to visit the Loire Valley and Chambord!
10 pm. We had a terrific day! Went by bus to Orleans, where Jean D’Arc lived for a time. There is a beautiful cathedral there, with stained glass windows depicting her life. It was a really quaint old town, and we ate lunch there at a sidewalk cafe. Then we were off to the amazing Chambord Chateau! It was built by Francois Premier, even tho he really didn’t stay there very often. The architecture was just awesome...the skyline has been compared to a giant chessboard! LOTS of steps up the double spiral staircase!! Came back to our really quaint hotel, and had a delicious meal of corn soup with a poached egg and hazelnut scrapings, some sort of very tender pork, and Choc cake!

10/10/17 —10/11 Justin took us to the airport about 2:30pm and of course we had to wait until 6:00 to take us to Atlanta. Once there, we had a long layover of several hours and finally boarded the plane. The food was not good, my audio didn’t work on the little tv, so no movies, and my airplane seat made loud noises when I moved! Plus...it was freezing! Finally arrived on time (1:15 pm) in Paris. We’re staying at the Meridian Hotel, which looks nice but is inconvenient! Heavy sliding doors, weird shower, and small room. We ate at a terrible little place on the recommendation of the Viking host and left feeling like we wasted a whole night in Paris. But we are soooo tired! It’s 8:04 and I am turning out the light because we have to have our bags out by 6:30....
