Day 2: Holyrood Palace
After Edinburgh Castle we visited Holyrood Palace, where Queen Elizabeth will be staying in five weeks. There also were the ruins of the abbey (and I think that was a sarcophagus!) and the gorgeous botanical gardens. After the palace we adventured to a local coffee shop called the Black Medicine Coffee Co, where I had some caramel shortbread pie and a smoothie.
Day 2: Edinburgh Castle
Today we visited Edinburgh castle, with the oldest part being St. Margaret's Chapel built in the 12th century (also making it the oldest still-standing building in Edinburgh!). The castle seemed familiar for some unknown reason, until I figured out that it reminded me of Hogwarts!

Day 1 in Edinburgh
After lots of flying and lack of sleep, we made it here this afternoon. I had a lovely supper of artichoke mushroom soup, venison casserole and toffee banana pie with my awesome classmates and professors at a restaurant called Howie's in New Town. Then, we climbed Calton Hill and got to see some of the most awesome historical monuments.
Here are some pictures from the Schiphol Amsterdam airport which we had a layover in this afternoon. It was so cool to see how different (but still familiar) the items in the vending machines were, and the drink machines even had touch screens!
Hey everyone! Thanks for taking the time to check this blog out. We're at the airport right now getting ready to fly to Amsterdam and then to Edinburgh. When we hit the ground we will be hiking Calton Hill (aka mountain) so I should have plenty of pictures to post tomorrow. Stay tuned!
