24 July 2018

On the bright side, Stephen booked me business class tickets. I got to enjoy the VIP lounge ad perks of first class, like priority boarding and security, and free drinks and meals. Plus, you’re not packed like sardines. Too bad I lost a day of Barcelona sightseeing.

Flight got cancelled last minute, with no other flights to Barcelona. Stephen booked me a flight for the following day. Stayed at Hotel Sky, a lounge hotel inside the airport, for $200.
Last stop: Pantheon! My favorite spot in Rome, just due to its sheer age (2000 years old), remarkable preservation (though it lost a bit of its color), and structural ingenuity.
St. Peter’s basilica. Must cover shoulders and knees, watched tourists get turned away. Visited tombs of prior popes and others buried in the basiiclia, like Queen Cristina of Sweden.

- Ended the night at Castel del Angelo bridge. - night market surrounding the castle. Vendors selling souvenirs, food, lots of clothes (Alvina bought too many dresses), Rome library booth. - sushi dinner and live jazz concert by the Tiber River.
Quick detour to Vatican City. Everything was closed, but we got some beautiful pics in the empty courtyard.
What a view! (Palatine Hill)
An afternoon among the Forum ruins.

Trevi fountain. Peddlers kept trying to sell usnpolaroid pictures. Crowded af. Quick stop for gelato: Oreo, kiwi, passion fruit. Moved onto Spanish steps. Don’t know they’re famous.l as they’re quite plain. Watched the sunset. Finished the night with a yummy and quiet dinner near the Trevi fountain plaza. Had caprese salad, Alvina had spaghetti alla carbonara (yuck).
Colosseo afterwards! Second time visiting. Learned there used to be levels of seating reserved for different social classes. Plebeians sat at the top with wooden tiers.
More ruins + blood orange soda. Much needed in the hot as hell weather.
- Alvina went to aerial class. Checked out trajans markets.
