Day trip to Nara. By rapid train from Jr namba. What we enjoyed most was an authentic Japanese restaurant lunch full of locals. They only had a tempura set or steak set lunch option. The tempura was perfectly crispy and came with a lively salad and soup. The park and temples and little alleyways in the old town were peaceful and pretty. Our first full Cherry Blossom blooms too.

Although beautiful from the outside, visiting on the way to Osaka is definitely worthwhile. The internal ticket is a bit of a tourist trap where you slowly cattle along with a very large crowd through he floors of the 🏰. It has small windows and no other internal features other than wood floors and stairs.

Day trip to Miyajima island with cable car trip to lookout on mountain and hike from cable car to the eternal flame. The grounds have many deer and the lovely orange water shrine. There's also a 5 tier temple and a water maze temple. Enjoyed the maple cakes here and tried red bean, sweet potato, choc and matcha.

First Shinkansen trip to Hiroshima. Had to do 2 transfers. From Kobe to Hiroshima the sweet elderly man next me bought us both orange juice bottles. We had that with our pre purchased lunch from 7/11 Narita. They do sell food in the train on a cart.
