Pam & Mivvi trip to Canada

17 August 2017

Well you will be pleased to know this will be our last Journi Blog for Canada ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ. We went for a walk around the town today before checking out at 12midday ready for our flight home. Dad and I have had the most amazing time, of course we were very sad we could not be at home for the birth of our 2new grandchildren, Noah Steven, & Ivy Grace. We are truly truly blessed ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’—xx

16 August 2017

Arrived at the Westin Hotel Calgary at 1pm, was able to check early, have a brilliant room and complementary breakfast ๐Ÿ˜‹ in the morning. Went for a browse around the town, got back for a shower before meeting up with Moyร  at 5pm. Had a lovely evening with Moyร , had a meal in the Irish bar and Dad had a Kilkenny or two and Moyร  and I had a wine or two. Dad had Irish stew very nice but not a patch on Phyllis'. Left Moyร  at 10.30 and she caught the tram home.
Checked out of the Rimrock Hotel Banff at 10 am took a few photos of the Hotel before we set of, went and had a coffee and scone in the Fairmont Hotel , it looked like colditz , but was quite amazing inside. Set off on the road to Calgary for our last night, I drove all the way to the hotel, felt very proud.

15 August 2017

We then went for a walk along the Bow river to Sundance Canyon, when suddenly 3 massive elks came up out of the river, and Dad decided to get photos , I just legged it . He got some good photos though ๐Ÿ˜†. Caught the courtesy bus into town this evening , it was buzzing down there. Had a meal in a place called Park !! We had bison meatballs and spaghetti. Home by 10 pm.
Had a nice lay in today, no rush to be anywhere. Had a river cruise on the Minnewanka Lake ๐Ÿ˜‚ at midday so took a leisurely drive to the lake for the trip. Was a lovely day if a little windy and the lake was crystal blue. After the cruise went to the Cave & Basin which is a cultural centre with hot sulphur springs and also the museum of history of the history of Canada.

14 August 2017

Had a bit of relaxation then got ready to go into town but it was looking like rain so decided to have a meal in the Eden restaurant at the hotel. It was out of this world , although we ordered 3 courses , they brought little aperitif in between, we must have had 9 courses. Then to finish as we went they gave us a bag with a surprise , 2 pieces of banana cake all wrapped up. Dad couldn't believe it that in between each course the waiter came and had a little table sweeper. The waitress described every single item of food that you ordered. When they reset the tables the waiter brought out his steamer and steamed the tablecloth, you should have seen Dads face , he wanted that steamer to press his clothes ๐Ÿคฃ
Left the grotty Deer Lodge heading for Banff. Wanted to take in a few sights on the way, first stop was Moraine Lake, then to Johnston Canyon. We went on the Banff Gondola and were very lucky to get some great views on the way up as the cloud came in when we were up there and it started to sleet. We then took a trip out to Bow Falls and Hoodoo which is a strange rock formation like stalagmites. Managed to check into our room early which was such a contrast from yesterday

13 August 2017

Travelled on to Lake Louise after several stop offs at beautiful lakes & waterfalls. Stopped at Bow Summit & Lake Peyto. It was about a 10 min walk up a very steep path , but well worth the effort . Made our way Deer Lodge Lake Louise , very basic , not quite what we have been used to , no iron or ironing board ๐Ÿ˜ฑdad not amused. Went and had a look at Lake Louise and the Fairmount hotel which is amazing, but so it should be for ยฃ750 per night. Went back to our hotel had a snack & a couple of beers.
Set off early again as we had to trips one to the Colombian ice fields. We stopped at Athabasca Falls which were pretty amazing. Stopped at Sunwapta Falls , we then went on the Athabasca Glacier. Went up in a massive truck with 5ft high wheels. Then went on to do the sky walk , the weather wasn't brilliant but still had a great time.

12 August 2017

Had a Maligne Lake tour today , got picked up at 8.30 and went into Jasper National Park. Our tour guide ,Fred was very interesting and really knew his stuff. Stopped off at Medicine lake where we saw a baby bald eagle, and some baby deer. We even saw a Grizzly Bear scurrying in the woods. Saw some massive water falls. The lake tour was lovely but it seems the smoke from the fires had blown this way over night , so views weren't as beautiful as we had hoped. It didn't spoil our day , we took some lovely scenic photos of Spirit Island it was a lovely day. Got back at 3.30 and I wanted to go in a canoe on the lake, Dad wasn't as keen but we hired a canoe for 30 mins, we didn't fall overboard and we didn't have an argument either, it was very relaxing. We drove to a little way to Pyramid Island where a wedding had just taken place. Went back to lodge ,showered and went for a meal in the restaurant.

11 August 2017

Didn't sleep well, very wam and we had the main kitchen ventilation shaft right outside our bedroom window, nor helpful even with ear plugs so decided to make an early start for Jasper which was 400 km . Set off at 8.45 dad drove the first hour, when we stopped for coffee and a snack. I continued for the next 300km. The sky's began to clear and we started to at last see the beautiful country. Driving on the highway 5 then on to the 16. We stopped for photos at Mount Robson and Moose lake on the way. Arrived at Pyramid Lake resort at 3.45 BC time but we had to add on an hour as we are now in Alberta province time. Went to the restaurant this evening for a lovely meal, then for a walk by the lake. Mozzie's started to bite so headed back to our lodge.

10 August 2017

Another travel day today, we decided to take a chance heading for Kamloops up the highway 99, we couldn't face going all the way down to Vancouver and up again, we had a very eventful trip, I drove and the first event being a road closure at Cayoosh Creek due to a rock fall. We had to wait for it to be secured. As we drove the smoke got thicker, and everyone had to be escorted by a fire pilot car from Marble Canyon to Cache Creek, had to drive with headlight and hazards on for 30k, I drove all the way and Dad was very proud of me. The views were sadly obscure by the low lying smoke. We arrived at Kamloops at 3.30 , just having a chill out afternoon before we set off again tomorrow for Jasper .

9 August 2017

We have a lovely suite but very near the lift so good job we have our earplugs ๐Ÿ˜–went for an explore around whistler , it is an amazing place for young and old. We have never seen so many children on mountain bikes, they go in a chair lift up the mountain and ride all the way down . Fearless.!! We went up in a gondola which was pretty hairy, and came down in a ski lift even scarier. Had a lovely walk around Lost Lake although we found it. They had shut some of the pathways due to baby toads migrating back to their ponds. I also saw Alvin, but couldn't find Theodore or Simon ๐Ÿ˜€. We are off to an Irish pub tonight so Dad can have a well deserved Kilkenny. We have a heck of a trip to Jasper tomorrow due to road closers because of massive forest fires. We have to go back down to Vancouver , then sweep back up to Jasper ๐Ÿ˜ซ Had a nice last meal in whistler .
Today we were travelling for almost 12 hours, checked out of the Parkside Hotel Vancouver Island at 10 to drive to the ferry back over to Horseshoe bay Vancouver, had a four hour wait to get on, we were the last but one car to make it. Had 3hour drive to Westin Hotel & Spa whistler, had a stop at Shannon falls which was very nice , we arrived at 9 pm, had a complimentary drink and went to bed.

Went on from there along the coast to French beach , I drove all the way to Port Renfrew, where we had a drink in a quant log cabin pub right on the beach. From there headed back via Lake Cowichan, it was 30degrees, lots of people swimming in the lake. There was a massive lilo that held all the family. Might be an idea for Steve vix & boys for future outings ๐Ÿคฃ Went out for a drink & a meal, tonight, just settled in the English pub, when alan rang to tell us we have a granddaughter ๐Ÿ˜˜ we went to Canada with 3 grandsons and are coming home to 4 gorgeous grandsons and now a gorgeous granddaughter, we are so blessed.
