Our first rainy day since leaving home! Started out drizzly. We decided to bike the Lava-Sunriver trail to the falls, into Sunriver and through town to the Sunriver Brewery for lunch. Kids were awesome through the drizzle. Beautiful biking trail. Then came the downpour! We arrived in the resort village of Sunriver totally drenched and freezing. Tony was a hero and biked back to get the truck. I took the kids to the shops for new, dry outfits for everyone so we could still enjoy lunch. KATIE: This is the worst day and the best day ever. HAYDEN: I love breweries. A memorable day, indeed!

The Hetch Hetchy Reservoir inside Yosemite National Park provides fresh drinking water that is piped to the residents of San Francisco. Snowmelt fills the reservoir with water that exceeds the USA drinking water standards. The high elevation requires only gravity to move the water. Hydroelectric power is also produced as the water is released and is used to run San Francisco's cable cars, hospitals, and more. This amazing engineering took place in the 1930s and it is beautiful.

7 May 2019

Campground fun at Palm Springs RV Resort in Palm Desert, CA. This park is actually a date farm. The palm trees are date palms and the park will close down in May and June for the harvest. Before leaving home we became members of Thousand Trails RV Resorts. Once a member, you camp for free at any if their 200+ properties for the rest of the year. Our only restriction is that we can't stay more than 4 nights in a row at any one campground or we then need to come out of their system for a full week. We were very skeptical. But it has worked out so well. Their properties primarily outline the perimeter of the US, essentially our loosely planned route. We have stayed in their parks in North Carolina, Florida, Texas and Arizona. The next month and a half will take us to 12 different Thousand Trails Campgrounds up the West coast. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa for the membership! It's been the gift that keeps on giving!
