Michelle 's adventure in Israel

3 September 2016

Saturday Sept.3rd- jet lag! Got up minutes before breakfast was closed. A quiet day on Shabbat planned
Arrived last night, Friday 1st of September right before Shabbat. We checked into the Arthur Hotel and immediately trekked to the old city to Jaffe Gate where we went on 2 hour Shabbat Experience tour through New Europe tours. Everyone was rushing home, shops closing and you see families and throngs of people dressed in their finest. The women were all covered and the men strutted with their fancy black hats, side curls and long black Coats. Walked to the Western (wailing wall) at dusk. Our guide did the Shabbat blessing and gave us challah bread and grape juice. You can hear the Jewish followers singing and singing. No photos allowed. The men pay seepage from the women.
The rampart walk was interesting and we only ran into 4 people-like our own city wall and I did not fall once! We then had lunch at the very popular Foccacia Bar, the to a gorgeous speakeasy called Gatsby- the bookcase slides open to secret entrance - chip had the pain killer
Went to Mount of the Olives for the view and walked the south ramparts
Went to Israel Museum and saw the Dead Sea scrolls and model of The second temple if Jerusalem before it was burned in 70 AD by the Romans/ both were wonderful
The roads were deserted

The gold dome was beautiful
At Jaffe Gate
Love our room (#202) at the Arthur Hotel. Great location, great balcony with a view
