Portugal 2017

15 August 2017

Today we spent the day in Cascais and it was the best end to the trip we could have asked for. Sun, sea and seafood, literally the best we could have asked for. We took the train here and it only took us 40 mins! The first thing we did was visit Boca do Inferno, an incredible rock formation that's definitely worth visiting. Just thinking about the number of fishermen that have died trying to scale it and fish down there is scary. Then we headed back into the main town and got lunch and the cutest little Portuguese restaurant on the marina. We had sangria and I finally got to satisfy my seafood cravings 😭😭 after that we just chilled on the beach, such a good day! Portugal has my heart.

It was a lazy day because we're tired from Sintra yesterday, and we're preserving our energy for Cascais tomorrow 😂 sooo we just headed out to Cais do Sodre to get some dinner from the Time Out Market. The first of its kind, this place is incredible. It's made up of lots of little stalls serving up different cuisines, all of which have been rated at least 4 stars by Time Out critics, so the food is supposed to be really good. I can definitely vouch for that! We started off with bacalhau pastries which were incredible. Bacalhau is salted cod, and is considered a staple in Portugal. It is a traditional method of preserving the fish. The pastries are fried with herbs and onions and taste amazing! I had planned on getting some seafood for dinner, but the stall I wanted had a 40 min waiting time so I opted for an artisanal burger instead and I'm so glad I did 😭 I saw the burger meat being shaped right in front of me, the food tasted incredibly fresh. 109 thumbs up for this place!

Sintraaaaa! One of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. A World Heritage Site, the whole town is steeped in history. We took a bus around as the whole town is literally hill after hill. We got a look at some incredible estates, most of which belonged to Portuguese royalty. We also visited Cabo de Roca, the westernmost point of the whole of Europe, as well as Pena Palace, an incredibly beautiful and colourful palace high up in the hills of Sintra. Benjy volunteered to be my photographer 🙃 and a blogger even asked me for a pic loooool maybe I'm in the wrong profession 😂 Madre also took some pics for meee in the palace's grounds ❤️

We spent the day in Belém and visited the Belém Tower, saw some great views of Ruo Cristo across the river and visited the incredible Jeronimos Monastery. We also spent 20 minutes queuing outside Pasteis de Belém, the home of pastel de nata, a traditional Portuguese custard tart. We left with 10 and it was sooo worth it

We spent the 35C day exploring the Baixa district, a beautiful old town in the heart of Lisbon. Best sights include Praca do Comercio and the Santa Justa Elevator. There are so many little winding streets with local restaurants offering up the best seafood 😍

The most incredible experience! Four huge tanks made to mimic the four largest oceans, allowing the marine life to live is what is truly the best replica of their natural habitats. I was very impressed by the amount of time and money put into conservation here 👏🏾

Coming to land in Lisbon is insane! There's only one means of entry so the plane did a whole 180, it made for some incredible views
