8 August 2017

The sun finally comes out so after croissants , we go down to the outside pool. Kiddies swim whilst us adults doze. Catherine makes ham sandwiches for lunch and h&s go on a big water slide. Spent the whole day at the pool , jemma burned her face and Steven his arms, then that evening it was bbq time. Really windy that evening, food wasn't cooked great and then a storm came in . Thunder and lightening again, so it was an early night for us all.

Woke in the morning to sun and blue skies, breakfast barm from the cadac before packing up and setting off for Devon. Catherine was driving, she drove all the way, and she is very good at it. Finally got there, very much like Pembrokeshire in Devon, small narrow roads, and catherine had s bit of an incident on the final hill up to the campsite. But nothing too hairy, and we were soon pitched up. The Hancocks arrived soon after and we watched them pitch tent in an adjoining field. We ate in the bar area that evening, i had a burger that wasn't bad actually. Played bingo with the other punters before off to bed

Woke in the morning to cloud and showers. Decided to go shopping so went to retail park nearby and had s Morrisons breakfast. Sun was out one minute, then it clouded over an we had hailstones, after the shop we drove up to Malvern where I bought some clothes, I'd forgotten my coat, the weather improved , sun came out and we returned to site where we used the cadac carri chef 2 for the first time. Had prawn, chicken kebabs etc. Very good. Didn't venture out as we had thunder and lightening that evening. In fact I was bed for 9.30, after camper disco. I was just full of snot.

So the plan is to travel down on Friday afternoon. Stay two nights near Worcester and then meet up with the Hancocks in Woolacombe. Although traffic was heavy on the M6 and M5 , it was a Friday, we made it in good time, arriving about 7pm . Nice site, Blackmore C&C club site near to Malvern Hills. Beautiful, wooded site with good pitches and facilities . Pitched up no problem and walked down to the pub, 20 mins. Lovely pub, more a gastro pub really. Couple of San Miguel's and then walked back. Supper was basically some cold tapas, and I ate furry olives. I noticed Catherine wasn't eating any when I discovered this. Didn't kill me though. I had a bad cold and couldn't taste much.

Derbyshire We gave it another go and this time headed past Buxton on route to Ashbourne. Upper Hurst Farm Hulme End Near Hartington Buxton Derbyshire SK17 0HH Lovely site near to Hartington . Great pitch, weather hit and miss, loads of little kids around but not a problem. 5 or 6 vw campers there, mostly motorhomes and caravans but several tents as well. The first night was awful, I said I wanted to go home but we stuck it out. In the morning it was cloudy but dry so we walked into Hartington down some footpaths. A pub lunch and a bus ride into the next village, followed by another pub supper and all was well again. The following day, Sunday we packed up and stopped over on the tissington trail to see what it was like. Decided to either hire or buy bikes next time. En route home stopped at Buxton, sun was shining and the band played. Beautiful day. A6 was closed so we had to divert through to Stockport to see kiddies. In the endagoodweekend, it could have been terrible,

Catherine met me at work so we drove from stanlow to Bala in Wales at about 4 o'clock. Only takes just over an hour from there. Catherine wasn't very happy as she'd just broken her nose and I'd left pots in the sink from when I'd made our tea the night before. So when we pitched up, in the rain, on a small campsite in the middle of nowhere I knew it was going to be a long weekend.
