Laura's journi to Italy

16 May 2017

Day 8 Tues Late breakfast, sad as we return to wet UK today. Will miss breakfasts under the lemon trees listening to the birds. Sat by pool for hour then showered and checked out. Managed to pack everything in our hand luggage surprisingly!! Went to square for drink then lunch at a lovely little restaurant Sorrento. Finally had my ice cream and said bye to the beautiful part of the planet. Taxi came promptly for the relaxing drive to the airport. Bumped into other passengers we had met and Jet2 never checked our baggage or weight. Drat, could have bought more clothes!!!!! Ciaou Italia Dolce Vita 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹

Day 7 Mon Early breakfast to catch private boat to Capri. A MUST DO!!!!!! Fabulous last day. Stopped at Marina Piccolla where Sophie Lauren has her villa. Lunch and sat watching the world go by. Just paradise. Saw the private boat £360 million owned by a Russian, has floors and is higher than Big Ben!!!! Back with Italian music and champagne!!! What a fabulous end to a beautiful week ❤️🇮🇹 Super sea bass for Abs and my favourite beef mozarello with tomato and rocket in a little restaurant called Fouro.
Day 6 Sun After breakfast walked a good hour the other side of Sorrento but got too hot. Coffee in the Piazza Tasso square and watched the world go by. Afternoon by pool and swim to cool off. Dinner at Parruchiano, a beautiful restaurant set in a garden and conservatory. Veal and mozarello in lemon leaves. Bed as up early.

Day 5 Sat Alarm up at 730 for breakfast under the lemon trees. This really is a fantastic hotel; the owner comes most mornings and there are so many little touches to make it the hotel it is. Got the ferry to Capri. I loved it 5 years ago. Bus up to the cable car then 13 minutes of pure meditation. If this is what heaven feels like I will be happy!! Table Top Mountain and Capri are the 2 destinations where I feel at total peace. It actually brought a tear to my eye. Breathtaking views and occasionally a wisp of cloud. This is when I say "stop the clock". Walked around, had a spot of lunch chatting to a pair of American professors. Bus back down but only took us to Capri - well that was a bonus. THIS is what they all mean by shoppers paradise - designer shops and smelling of wealth. Suppose I had to try on some jewellery!!!!!! Walked back down for ferry back. After a relaxation went to Meating for fillet steak and blue cheese sauce. Bumped into a couple from the flight.
Day 4 Fri Chilling day shopping. Fabulous shops so had to buy some items!!!!! 2 trousers, 2 tshirts and shoes for me: Abs 3 trousers, shirt and 2 pairs of shoes. And we only have hand luggage so watch this space!!!! Relaxed with book and bellini by pool and had a swim. Just heavenly. All spruced up and met Pete and Jane Barklamb who worked with me in the British Embassy in Riyadh 23 years ago and saw we were in Sorrento. Fabulous night reminiscing with seafood platter and prosecco in our usual L'Abate restaurant. Super night.

Day 3 Thurs After breakfast walked to the local bus station and queued for the local bus to Amalfi costing €8 return and taking 1hr 45 mins. Managed to get seats on the right of the bus. OMG cheapest and most scenic bus ride on this planet!!! The Amalfi coast is just breathtaking. Reached Amalfi and changed bus to Ravello a pretty old town in the mountains. After a spot of lunch in the square visited the Villa Rufolo; a building within the historic center of Ravello which overlooks the front of the cathedral square. Amazing views to the coast. On queueing for the return bus there was a fight as some German backpackers tried to jump queue; something us Brits do best is queue!!! Standing room only, packed like sardines back to Sorrento. An entertaining drive and I applaud all these bus drivers on how they manage to drive these huge buses on these narrow coastal windy roads 👏👏👏 Rekaxation, bath and off for dinner in our usual restaurant with live music. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Amalfi

Day 2 Wed Enjoyed breakfast under the lemon trees. We returned to this specific hotel as their breakfast is the best ever - set in their garden and the best selection of food including Bucks Fizz. We walked around Sorrento and bumped into 2 couples we had met on the plane. Lunch at the Grande Marina sitting by the boats. Whilst Abs had his afternoon nap I read and relaxed by the pool. Love this place. Evening stroll to a roof top bar then ate at La Taverna - great veal escalope but we were so full from the delicious bruscetta beforehand. Couldn't even manage a walk after - straight to bed.

Walked to the bus stop for £5 bus trip to East Midlands Airport; advantage of living central! Enjoyed one of the best salads I've had, chicken, advocado. Great Jet2 flight to Naples, taxi to Sorrento and back to the hotel we stayed in 5 years ago Antiche Mura. Once unpacked walked into the beautiful square for drinks. Ended up eating in Restaurant L'Abate which was our favourite before. Live music, good food and generous alcoholic measures!!! Staggered home to bed. Great to be back
