Day trip out to the beautiful Kuang Si waterfall, it took about 30 minutes to climb to the top on some pretty questionable terrain. At the top we were glad to jump in the pool and play on the tree swing to cool down! In the evening we had a very quick hike to the top of Phou Si mountain with our waterfall-buddy Sandy to see the temple and the sunset over the hills. We chilled out with a few beers and some food at a riverside bar called Utopia at night. The next day we travelled over the mountain road to Vang Vieng where we had our first tubing experience, a lot calmer from years gone by due to the restrictions on the bars being open but it was still really fun to have a few drinks and float down the Nam Song river. After our brief trip in Laos it's onto Vietnam next!

A very busy first day in Laos, arrived at a about 4am and couldn't get into our hostel so we went to try and find a place to sit and watch the alms giving. So many people sharing what little they have with the monks was quite moving, or maybe that was just the lack of sleep! Once we could finally drop our bags off we headed out on the Mekong river on a rather rickety boat to see the Pak Ou caves where there are thousands of Buddha statues. On the way back we called at the 'whiskey village' where we sampled some of the local tipple made from rice. Sooo strong! They also made lots of scarves by hand on the loom. Once back on dry land we needed food so headed to Tamarind, where the serve traditional Laos dishes, some were "interesting" others were really yummy. Back to the hostel for a quick nap then out to the night market. A jam packed day but so much fun.
