Save the best attraction for last, one of my favorite things to do on a trip. Today was a day I had been looking forward to for a long time. We drove the 4 hours from Las Vegas to Springdale, Utah, home of Zion National Park. Just the drive itself to the park would’ve fulfilled my day.
When you arrive at the park it is $30 entrance fee and get there early early early. This is one of the most visited National Parks in the US so it’s always busy. There was a shuttle bus system that would take you to any of the 9 stops to the end of the park, no personal vehicles allowed. The sights we amazing, it’s very hard to explain and pictures don’t do it’s justice. The mountains towered over you on hikes and the views were something I have never seen before. I’m so glad I’m able to mark this one off my list! One down 57 more to go!

All I can say about this day was, DAM! Today, we woke up before the sun and started to make our drive to the Hoover Dam. The drive was only about 45 minutes and since we went on a Monday, and as early as we could, there was no one. You don’t know how large this engineering masterpiece is until you are standing right on top of it. Not only could you walk the bridge directly on top of the Dam, there is a way to get to the Mike O’Callaghan - Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, which overlooks the entire structure. There is a small parking lot on your left side, leaving the Dam, which allows you to get out of your car and walk on the Memorial Bridge.
After I was able to experience the Hoover Dam, lunch was calling our names. To get the FULL Vegas experience, my Uncle took me to the Sunset Station Casino and Buffet. For around $10 a person you can have some of the best buffet food you’ve ever had. At night we went to the Bellagio to see the fountain show and then to Caesar’s Palace to walk!

Relaxation Station was the theme for today as we started it off by running some errands. Had some lunch at a place called Millers Ale House and it’s great prices for good food and beer! Always good to know 😉. Deciding on what to do for the day, we came up with a couple ideas!
Started it off by going to the Linq Hotel & Casino in downtown Las Vegas off the strip, but not for the reasons you are thinking of. We took a ride on the “High Roller at the Linq” and it is the tallest observation wheel in the world! It was so awesome. Being able to see maintains and desert on one side, and the Las Vegas Strip on the other.
(HINT: if you do this, buy your tickets online and look for a promo code, tickets on site are $25, online with a promo code we got them for $15.)
Lastly, to end the night, we made some baked ribs, homemade popcorn and hung out watching a movie. Relaxing Sunday to say the least!

Day 1 begins my hiking adventures! Went out to the west side of Las Vegas and hiked at Red Rocks Conservation Area. This place is so cool, everyone needs to check it out. As soon as we got there, a line of cars stretched out of the entrance. The cost was only $15 and there is a 13 mile loop of scenic drive around the park. Each mile or two there are overlooks and hiking trail stops for you to park your car and get out. We did that and the sights we were able to see were fantastic. The marble red rock and the different landscape was just amazing.
Getting hungry around 3-4pm, we stopped at a place called 595 Craft & Kitchen in Las Vegas. Had myself a Atomic Duck IPA from Able Baker Brewing Co. in Henderson, Nevada. Great beer and great times!
At night we strolled Fremont Street to see the huge LED light show. The show theme was Imagine Dragons and the visuals were amazing, and so was the people watching. Can’t forget, got myself some In-N-Out burger and my day was finally complete.
VIVA LAS VEGAS! I have arrived in the Sin City, safe and sound. In order to get here, on the cheap end, I took a discount airline and a red-eye flight. That was not the most fun 4 hour flight. Had the little girls behind me hitting my seat and the lady next to me falling asleep, inching towards me as I sit there crammed on the window section of the plane. Other than that though, I’m great!
Met my uncle as soon as I got to baggage claim. First off, Vegas gets you from the START. There are colorful lights and slot machines as soon as you disembark your flight, how crazy. I asked to get some food that was “fast and greasy” as soon as I got off the plane, and my Uncle Kerry knew just the place. We went to a local burger place, which my mom would love just, called “Badger Burger.” Yes Mom, that’s for the Wisconsin Badgers. The bar attached to it is a sports bar that is a die hard Green Bay Packer fan base and I was told it was gets packed on game days.
Here’s to a memorable experience!
