I met Carolan at Trattoria al Trebbio. She walked in and asked for a window table. The waiter moved her down one. She winked at me. She said "excuse me, are you American and apologized for her criticizing Americans and their food habits. We struck up a conversation and I invited her to my table. She read my number- expression, openness?, And material abundance. Walked her back to her hotel. She was 80 and fabulous.

My view from my hotel window
Caffe gelato. Ok. Hand chunks of ice in it.

Stunning views from train on way to Lauterbrunnen
I'm still in Chicago but I love listening to the foreign voices. Still there is relief knowing most speak English. Just helped a woman find wifi. We couldn't understand each other. As a guess, I'd say Russian. I'm nervous. Right now, mostly about feeling nauseous. Supposed to be an empty seat next to me. Fingers crossed.
