Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, November 2016

21 November 2016

...continued: the female cheetah started hissing at the lion, trying to draw his attention to her and away from her cubs, it worked and the male lion started to chase the mother. Knowing she could easily outrun him, she kept just out of reach, continuing to hiss at him to draw him away from her cubs. he kept charging her and she kept hissing at him until she was happy that her cubs were out of range. She then gave a final Sprint away and the lion gave up, cheetah and cubs safely out of danger. He continued down to the water hole to drink and then made his way, fortunately for us, to the shade of a tree just below our cabin. There he stayed, surveying the waterbed until the sun rose and he was no longer in the shade, thereafter he moved, just out of sight but still close, to another spot to rest for the day. This all before 7am!! Great start to the day!
