28 August 2016

We finally reached our destination yesterday at Orisson.. This was the hardest part of the walk. The path is steep. It's unforgiving . We start at St. Jean with a very steep climb right from the beginning. Just a constant climb with very few plateaus . But we made it in 3 hours. We went back to St Jean for the night . We are grateful that we didn't have body aches, blisters or sunburn.
Walk in the clouds..
Scenes from our first day of walk.
The first day of the Camino. We are walking to Orisson. A small refugio in the mountains of the Pyrenees. The climb is arduous. We decided to just walk up to Orisson , about 6miles and 800 meters . It took us almost 3 hrs of walking. Our walk was slow and we frequently rest and took pictures . The scenery took my breath away, undulating hills , isolated red brick roof chateaus , herd of sheep with the sound of the bells from their necks and fog covering the hills and disappearing after a moment to reveal a picturesque view. The pictures will not do justice to what I've seen. One needs to be here to fully capture the beauty of this place. Praise be to God.
Left the hotel this morning to start our Camino. We're full of excitement .
Today is the start of our walk. We begin our journey in the town of St. Jean-pied -de-Port ( St. John at the foot of the pass) . We will be walking the steepest part of the Camino. For today , instead of walking the 24 miles to Roncesvalles, we will walk for 6 miles to Orisson. Then tomorrow , we will go on the rest of the way. Accompany us in your prayers as we will remember you in ours. BUEN CAMINO

The pension where we stayed. Highly recommended. It's in the the town proper. A 10 min walk into town. But it's clean.. And the staff is friendly. They even have an aperitif for the guests in the evening.
Does these picture capture my mixed emotions ...
