Snorkeling with Raggamuffin Tours
During this trip, we visited 3 different locations. The most notable being the Hol Chan Marine Reserve. We saw so many different fish and even got to swim next to a green eel and a few turtles. We also made a stop to swim with nurse sharks and sting rays which was very thrilling. There must have been at least 30 sharks/rays swimming around us! This tour was also nice being on a sail boat, something different than the usual catamaran. We were also served a meal and drinks and got to sail back during sunset.

Fishing off Caye Caulker Island
Prior to visiting Belize, I had read a lot about finding someone to take us fishing. From what I read, you could pretty much find somebody by word of mouth. I was really hoping to be able to watch someone catch lobster as well, so I asked a man who had been cooking up lobster on the street where he got it. He said he would be able to set us up for a day trip with his fisherman. In the end, we didn't have a whole day to spare, so we walked along the other side of the island where all of the boats were located. We ended up meeting a man named William James who was standing outside of his house which had a sign on for fishing trips. He said he would be able to take us out for four hours the next morning which was perfect for our schedule. Although it was too murky to catch lobster, we were still able to catch quite a few snappers. We then took what we needed, and headed to a local restaurant to have them cooked up for us. Can't get any fresher than that!

Scuba diving with Frenchies Diving
We began our diving certification with a referral back in Chicago and figured being in Belize would be perfect to finish our open water dives. We chose Frenchies diving which was very easy to locate, right on the beach. We were taken out to the Belize Barrier Reef to complete our two tank dive. I was nervous as it had been 7 months since we had done our classroom and confined dives, but our instructor was very helpful and made me feel very comfortable. As he would say, "go slow" :D
I was determined to find this mysterious cashew wine as I had read about it prior to arriving. Made with the cashew fruit, it is VERY sweet. It is a supper-much like a port in that sense. It should be drank very cold. Was nice for the hot weather. As they say in Belize "the drink so nice it gets you drunk twice" ;)

Canoeing down the Belize River
Dream valley lodge had canoe rentals on site. This was a nice way to break up a free day in between relaxing at the pool. We went on about a two hour trip down and back on the river. We saw many monkeys hanging out up in the trees!

Full day tour with Explore Belize Caves
Mayan ruins, cave tubing & zip lining-what a day!
We were able to work with the tour company and pick the activities they offered that we would like to do. We were able to do all 3 in one day. Our tour guide was very friendly and informative throughout the day. He even made a stop for me to find some cashew wine and mixed us a batch of rum punch to enjoy between activities. Visiting the Mayan ruins was very interesting-we were able to climb to the top of one and see the Belize/Guatemala border. Cave tubing was short but fun and very different from your usual River tubing. The cave portion was long enough where we needed flashlights to see anything. The zip lines were pretty short but good for a first timer.

Dream Valley Jungle Lodge
This hotel was wonderful! There are only 7 bungalows which are spread out, making it feel like you are the only ones there. In fact, there were only two other couples there when we got there. The staff is very friendly and always helpful. The restaurant food was very good. The screened it porch was also a nice touch. We were able to hear howler monkeys during the night which really made us feel like we were in the middle of nowhere. We opted to get a room with a jacuzzi which was well worth the extra cost. It was a great way to relax with a glass of wine after a long day.
