Last full day in Auckland before flying home tomorrow. Flew back north from Queenstown this afternoon & drove to the Waitakere Ranges to have lunch at Kitekite Falls. Then dinner at Tasca, a Spanish tapas restaurant & dessert at Frasers. I’m going to be very sad when I get on that plane tomorrow.

Delicious dinner of lemon sole & Pinot Noir at Fishbone, followed by a gondola ride to the top of Queenstown to watch the sunset. My trip to New Zealand is turning into a documentary of wine, ferns, stunning landscapes and waterfalls.
Rare sunny day exploring Fiordland National Park and Milford Sound. Not too many waterfalls, but we spotted seals & bottlenose dolphins in the water.

First day in New Zealand: smooth flight into Auckland, sail through customs, hop on a bus heading north, arrive at Paihia - Bay of Islands 15 minutes before the Rock Adventure Cruise departs. Despite rain, wonderful evening spent getting to know all the other passengers. Successful snapper fishing (but no keepers), target shooting, bbq dinner, night kayaking through intensely bright blue bioluminescence. Blissful sleep in a 6 bed bunk room on a gently swaying boat.

Last minute flight change, departing one day earlier, to avoid a big snowstorm. I was awake until 3 a.m. packing & making arrangements for an overnight boat tour around Bay of Islands the day I arrive. It was stressful and I’m exhausted but so happy to be on this plane & carrying only 2 small backpacks. Let the journey begin!
