5 August 2018

On our last full day at Pacific Rim, we hiked a little during the day and then left the pups at the trailer for a little adult time. We went on a whale watching tour where we saw sea otters, seals, eagles, and one big whale that breached right in front of us. It was amazing! The whole tour was amazing! St one point, the next land mass in that direction was Japan. I loved being on the rolling waves and seeing them crash against the rocks. After the tour, we went to dinner looking out at the marina. We went back to the campground and tried to take the pups down to the beach. They wanted nothing of it. Wolves hunt down at the beach just waiting for an opportunity to grab a dog. We think they could sense the danger so we watched the sunset from a viewpoint instead and had our last fire in that park. We didn’t see a lot of wildlife in this park but it was ever present. I’d love to come back again and spend more time.

4 August 2018

We did a hike this morning to South Beach and beyond where it was very isolated. We let the pups off leach and swim in the ocean. They were having so much fun! Then we went to check out Tofino. We walked the Main Street and looked around. What a nice town.

3 August 2018

Today we travelled Hwy 4 from our camping spot to Pacific Rim. On the way, we managed to find a parking spot at Cathedral Grove and we walked the trails. I felt so at peace! The magnificent trees and huge ferns and plants were amazing! They must be seen to be fully appreciated. We arrived at Pacific Rim National Park before 2:00. Our site is far from flat but Serge managed to get us all evened out and we took a walk on Long Beach.

2 August 2018

So, I screwed up and didn’t book our ferry on time meaning that we have to leave a day earlier than expected from Vancouver. We left pulling the trailer before noon after walking the dogs and leaving the truck and headed towards Tsawwassen. We found a mall close by, had some lunch, the decided to head to the terminal. If we were going to sit in a parking lot, it may as well be while in line. As a result, we ended up getting an earlier ferry to the Island and late checked into a Provincial Park. We ended up in overfill but it was quiet and had a wonderful night sleep.

1 August 2018

Today we dropped off the dogs with a puppy sitter and went for a tour of Vancouver. What a wonderful city! I love it’s different distinct neighbourhoods. It’s a busy place focussed on sustainability. We tooled Granville Island, went to the space museum, took the seabus, had dinner at the Steam Works Brewery (and some beer) then went to get the pups. Very nice day.

31 July 2018

Today we arrived in Vancouver. We had a pleasant visit with Eileen and the headed into the big city to our campground. Once set up in our little space, we went for a visit at Stanley Park. It was amazing. I wish I had more time to spend there. I would love to run along the sea wall and bike it. It’s a beautiful place but busy. Leaving there, we ended up going into downtown which took us a while to get out of. Even the geese cross as the crosswalk. I think tomorrow we’ll try public transit.

30 July 2018

We travelled from Jasper to this little town Ashcroft. They had a little municipal run campground where we could stay the night with electricity. It was 40 degrees so air conditioning was imperative. Well, it wasn’t a very pretty place so no pictures AND there were train tracks on either side of the campground so we heard the horns blaring all night long. That wasn’t a very restful night.

29 July 2018

Well, Sunday was our last full day in Jasper. We spent the day taking the SkyTram up Whistlers mountain then hiking to the top. We went to dinner at the Jasper Brewing Company and then we went for a kayak on Patricia Lake. That ended fast with the sounds of thunder and a sudden storm that had us paddling madly for the truck. It was a great day all around. We will miss Jasper but we intend on coming back. It is just so beautiful.

28 July 2018

Did the Valley of the Five Lakes trail. The pups swam in lakes one and four. Hot day. Beautiful!

27 July 2018

Today was mostly spent on the Icefields parkway. We hiked to the glacier, went to the centre, took some pics at the pass and hiked Beauty Creek which is aptly named. We also saw some elk.

25 July 2018

Our trip from Banff to Jasper. Our picnic spot, elk, mountain goats and the pups on the patio while we were having a beer.

24 July 2018

Kayaking Bow Lake.
This morning we hiked the Peyto Lake/ Bow Summit Trail. It was so beautiful! The weather changed quite a few times while we were hiking it. That getting rained on thing is pretty normal around here. Kai and Nala rolled in the mountain snow, drank glacial water from the beginning of a waterfall and saw some new furry creatures.

23 July 2018

Last night we went up to Moraine Lake to see how easy it would be to put our kayaks in the water. Beautiful place but we didn’t kayak.
Got caught in the rain after a hike along the shore of Lake Louise. All of a sudden, the top of the mountain could no longer be seen and it started to storm. Kai and Nala both went in the lake and seemed to love it. There were a lot of people there.
Beautiful Lake Minnewanka and a brown bear eating berries.

22 July 2018

Hiked to the top of Tunnel Mountain with Steve and Jade. So beautiful and such great guides.
This morning we hiked Boom Lake trail with Jade, Steve, Noah and Liam. Spectacular!!

20 July 2018

Just pretty pictures from last night.
Beautiful hot day. Thankfully we got in a couple of hikes before it got too hot. The pups enjoyed a swim in the Red River.

19 July 2018

Alberta beautiful.
Hard to see but we’ve crossed into Alberta. 😊

18 July 2018

Had a wonderful visit with Sheila, Dwayne, Connor, Tanner and Aiden on the Anderson farm in Fosston. Such a beautiful place and wonderful people. It was really interesting to learn where our food comes from and the advancement in technology that has occurred to feed the planet at the same time as protecting it. It was also neat to learn that there is a lot more to Saskatchewan than we usually hear about. About 2/3rds of Saskatchewan is Lakes and trees or rocks and only a third, the southern third, is the typical picture of crops that we understand to represent this beautiful province. Thanks for your hospitality, the tour, sharing your knowledge and your help and tools! ❤️
Saskatchewan, we have arrived!
Manitoba fields of canola. So pretty.

17 July 2018

The Fort Carry Hotel reminds me of Ottawa.
Finally out of Ontario! BIG, beautiful province! See you in September!

16 July 2018

Great moment at the Terry Fox memorial.

15 July 2018

Arrived at Sleeping Giant, near Thunder Bay last night. Beautiful park. It was a long day driving. Friendly squirrels and ducks. They’re obviously used to being fed. I had a nice swim in the lake. Today we took the dogs for an off leash hike and we’re doing some touring of Thunder Bay.
Cool bridge in Nipigon!
Lunch in Marathon. First protest from Kai. Might be a long trip for him.

14 July 2018

Beautiful Lake Superior Provincial Park, Agawa Bay. Awesome except no signal. We hiked, they swam, I dipped my toes in Lake Superior.
