Alvey's Europe Adenture New York, NY

6 August 2017

After the memorial we went to the Oculus which is the new hub of the World Trade Center. It felt super modern and new. Then we made our way to The High Line, a garden walkway built on an old railroad trellis. It was a neat idea and a fun break to walking the regular streets. Then we met up with Sam in Central Park (pics to come when I get them from Preston) and then hustled (20 NY blocks on foot-carrying our backpacks mind you...) and I mean hustled, our way over to Grand Central Station for a quick picture. The shuttle back to the airport took over an hour (when they guarantee less than 45 minutes) and had us in a panic. We decided to eat dinner at the airport since we had only had granola bars and dried mangos all day. Then realized they changed our boarding gate to the farthest one possible and we were literally the last ones on the plane! But we made it!! Found out the flight is only 7 1/2 hours instead of 10. VENICE, HERE WE COME!!!
No sleep for us on that first flight! It ended up being an hour behind schedule but we got to upgrade to extra leg room for free so that was nice! We started the day off with a shuttle from jersey over to NYC. It was fun seeing Times Square almost empty at 8:00 am. Then we went to the 9/11 memorial which was also cool to see when it was way less crouded. The museum there was amazing! We spent 2 hours there and there was so much to see!! So sobering and amazing.

Our great European adventure begins!!! Because of the unproductivity of the man we hired to work on our yard, Preston spent all day until literally 45 minutes before we were supposed to leave working HARD in the yard. We made it to the airport and got through security in less than 10 minutes! First thing we purchased: CHAPSTICK! next thing: contact case....off to a great start for sure!
