And we are back on US soil!
15 July 2017
Today was the last day of our trip! We spent the day exploring Barcelona both by bus and on foot. We visited La Sagrada Familia and Park Guell, and did plenty of shopping around Las Ramblas. Families - be prepared for major souvenir gift giving when we get home!

This morning we left France and took a 6 hour bus journey to Spain! We arrived in Barcelona mid-afternoon and took the train into the city. We walked around together and explored La Boqueria, a giant market filled with every kind of food imaginable. We stopped for some fresh fruit juices and headed to dinner. More to come tomorrow!

After Nîmes we visited Pont du Gard (an ancient Roman aqueduct). Our group visited the museum as well and it was great!
Today we toured the ancient Roman amphitheater in Nîmes and learned all about the gladiators! It is the most well preserved of all Roman amphitheaters in the world.

Today we visited Avignon and toured the Papal Palace where the popes lived in the 1300s.

Lunch stop in Monaco!

Today we took the train to visit Manarola, Vernazza, and Monterosso - three fishing villages that make up part of Cinque Terre.

There is always room for gelato (and a nap on church steps?) after dinner!
This morning we said goodbye to Switzerland and buongiorno to Italy! First stop: Lake Como for lunch and a boat ride!

This afternoon we got to experience Mount Pilatus! We took gondolas up the mountain, where we had a couple of hours to hike various trails and explore more the peak. Then we took the world's steepest train (literally!) back down the mountain. At the bottom, we caught a ferry and enjoyed beautiful water views of Lake Lucerne! What an adventure!
Views from our walking tour of Lucerne!

What an amazingly breathtakingly gorgeous drive from Zurich to our hotel near Lucerne!
After arriving at Zurich Airport, we met up with three other groups and boarded a bus for the city center. We had some free time to explore Zurich while our Tour Director returned to the airport to pick up the last group. It's HOT here (mid 80s) and LOTS of sunshine. However, despite the heat and exhaustion and jetlag, everyone was a trooper and made the most of our time in the city. Now off to Lucerne!
