Island hopping in South Thailand

15 December 2016

Maya Bay "The Beach" The booze cruise took us to the famous Maya Bay where the film 'The Beach' took place. Getting to the beach was a bit of a mission and included battling with rocks, scrambling through narrow caves, and finally climbing up a net, all so that we could set foot on 'the beach'. When we were back on the boat I instigated a few drinking games resulting in us drinking the bar dry. We had a brilliant day, perfect farewell to Thailand πŸ’• Next stop Malaysia ☺️
Viking Cave & Pileh Lagoon The booze cruise also took us to these beautiful spots. We went for a swim in the ocean and found that if you put your legs into the arm holes of a life vest, it makes the perfect floating chair for you to relax in with a beer!
Booze Cruise, Monkey Beach πŸ’πŸ΅ Celebrated our last day on Koh Phi Phi by joining the Blanco Booze Cruise. Started the trip with a visit to monkey beach. I was cautious around the monkeys after being attacked by one on this trip, although I enjoyed watching them be mischievous. When we got back onto the boat we saw that one of the lads got a nasty bite from one of the little horrors, so I was glad I stayed well out of their way!
Viewpoint, Koh Phi Phi Faced the hangover by walking up to see the views that the island has to offer. Turns out 5 months of travelling and drinking copious amounts makes for 2 very unfit people! The views were worth it though πŸ’—

14 December 2016

Ibiza Pool Party! Spent from 1pm until sunset partying in true Ibiza style! Beer pong, vodka buckets and stupid pool games. We went back to the room to freshen up and carry on the night, then accidentally woke up at midnight...whoops! 😣

13 December 2016

A day in the life of Koh PhiPhi Booze cruise cancelled! So we had to spend the day stuck on this island, unlucky us eh?!

12 December 2016

Koh Phi Phi here we come Today we arrived at this beautiful little island. Love the fact there's no motorised transport on the island, gives it a very chilled out pace when you're walking around. However it's a different story at night where the whole island comes to life. Plenty of partying on the beach, the tide comes in so far that the dance floor in the bars ends up like a swimming pool. Decided to have a few pre-drinks to get in the party spirit!

11 December 2016

Farewell Koh Tao A day spent making the most of the beautiful beach Koh Tao has to offer. Later we caught the night ferry to begin our long boat-bus-boat journey to Koh Phi Phi on the South West coast of Thailand. Although the night boat resembles some kind of prison camp it was surprisingly comfortable and we slept like babies, gently rocked to sleep by the ocean waves.
Greasy Spoons Cafe = happy Jack

10 December 2016

Sunshine β˜€οΈ The sun has finally put its hat on, hip hip hip hooray! After a week of constant rain, flooded streets and crazy storms, it's nice to see the beauty this island has to offer ☺️
More diving fun! We loved diving so much that we decided to take our advanced course. We've now been on 9 dives around Koh Tao, including 30m deep dives, a buoyancy control dive and a ship wreck dive. Loved every minute! We are now officially certified as PADI Open water advanced SCUBA divers, wahoo!

8 December 2016

Time to celebrate! Massive party on Koh Tao tonight so we decided to join in, well we couldn't get our divers licence without celebrating now could we?! Fire shows, packed bar, dancing in the sea with vodka buckets. We finished up the night at our dive school bar for jΓ€ger and sambuca mixed shots 😷 πŸ‘Œ

7 December 2016

We did it!!! Proud to say we both passed and now officially have our PADI 'Open Water SCUBA Diving' licence! This means Jack and I can dive with a fellow diver (i.e. each other) anywhere in the world up to 18m in depth. Absolutely loved the course and learning all the necessary skills. Unfortunately the visibility on the dive was only around 3m due to the bad weather, on the plus side it means any future dives will seem easier in comparison πŸ‘Œ We weren't sure how we would both feel about diving but safe to say it won't be our last time under water 🐠🐟🐑

4 December 2016

SCUBA diving! Weather is still extremely wet but that doesn't matter when you've just signed up to be underwater for a 4 day SCUBA diving course 😬 We're hoping to get our open water SCUBA diving licence, eek so excited and admittedly a little nervous. In Jack's words, "F***ing hell Charl, what crazy idea have you roped us into this time" πŸ˜‚

3 December 2016

Monsoon season β˜”οΈπŸ’§πŸ˜° I expected to see paradise like the last picture but the reality is quite different!

2 December 2016

Koh Tao 'turtle island' We faced the roughest ferry ride of our lives across to this little island! I am not exaggerating when I say we actually thought it might be the end of us. The ferry was flying out of the air over 4m waves then smashing back into the ocean with a thud whilst nearly tipping over. Needless to say we were very thankful to get back onto solid ground! Enjoyed a heavy night on buckets of alcohol, dancing the night away to some live music to overcome our traumatic ferry crossing. Funniest moment of day 2... Jack was stood watching the waves when a massive one hit the edge and absolutely drenched him from head to toe! Hilarious and luckily my phone was to hand to capture this comedy gold! Downside of Day 2, the weather has turned and we are now facing deafening storms and torrential rain. Not looking forward to the boat journey back πŸ˜• For now we'll chill on the island!

1 December 2016

Time to chill We decided to live the life of an islander by making the most of the sun, sea, sand and pool. Today mainly consisted of walking on water, finding deadly jellyfish, pool time, shade-bathing, strolling along the beach and sunset volleyball (for Jack). All in all a very laid back day after a few too many drinks last night!

30 November 2016

Picture perfect πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’— The view from my sun lounger, absolutely amazing! We sat with a drink whilst watching the sunset, then Jack hunted out a British pub for tea. We both had a roast dinner for the first time in months and enjoyed a glass of wine listening to live music. Perfect end to a perfect day πŸ‘Œ
Keep exploring, Koh Phangan Jungle trek to find the waterfall, only to discover that the rain season hasn't hit yet! Negative side, the waterfall was barely a waterfall, plus side we could climb up it and found the most incredible viewpoint. We also explored a new beach today and even managed to squeeze in a spot of shopping. Still a lot of love for this island πŸ’—

29 November 2016

Just another day in paradise! First full day in Koh Phangan so we rented a scooter and explored the island. We had a great time discovering the beauty of the island, cooling off with the odd dip in the ocean of course ☺️

28 November 2016

Paradise is Koh Phangan Island hopped from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan and I am already in love with the place. Our own little beach bungalow with a view of the sea and pool for a whole Β£6 a night!

27 November 2016

And relax! Not much to report today. After a busy month in Vietnam we chose to adopt the island lifestyle and relax at our pool with a couple of chilled ones. Nice hostel (pretty much hotel in reality), made even better by the fact they serve jacket potatoes 😍 Such a simple thing but 4 months of travel has made me realise how much I love and have missed potato. Perfect day resulting in one happy traveller πŸ’—πŸ‘Œ

26 November 2016

Koh Samui by night! Watched a fire show on the beach followed by trying out the nightlife Koh Samui has to offer. Discovered Koh Samui s more like a holiday resort than a backpackers island, but we still made the most of the clubs and bars .😜
Welcome back Thailand! After 2 plane journeys and a full day of travel we arrived in the South of Thailand and spent the night in a place called Surat Thani. Next day we were up and out to board the ferry to Koh Samui. Island life here we come 🏝
