Ireland for St. Patrick's Day!

16 March 2018

Guinness Storehouse! We took a self guided tour of the Storehouse. It was really cool experience with a lot of hands on things. Learned how Guinness is made, how to pour correctly and taste correctly. The experience ended with a sky bar where we got to enjoy a free pint of Guinness over looking the city of Dublin! We ate lunch at the Storehouse. The girls got a Guinness stew and I got sweet potato soup. Both were phenomenal!

Today we traveled to Howth, a small peninsula north of Dublin and about 20 minutes from out lodge. The view there was gorgeous!! We were able to walk around the pier, see all the fresh fish markets, and ate lunch at one of the restaurants. I had a fish and chips dinner which was amazing! It had a split pea sauce to put on the fish and that was pretty good too! We then made to Summit, the highest point of Howth. From there we were able to hike bottom of the cliff. It was the coolest and most dangerous hike I've ever done, one miss step and you're rolling all the way down. At the bottom of the cliff there was a rock beach. Don't worry Mom, I found some cool stones for you! Honestly we just sat there for a while and took it all in. I cannot believe I'm in Ireland right now with these amazing views! Luckily no rain yet, but I'm sure that is coming.
We got into Ireland at 830 am. The weather is about the same as Cleveland, so it's winter boots and jackets for this trip! We decided to get a rental car for this trip so that we could see the country at our own pace and go wherever we want whenever we want. But guess who got voted as the driver? ME. Driving on the right side of the car on the opposite side of the street than I'm used to... it's surprisingly going better than I thought. Only curb checked the car once and I haven't hit any other cars yet! It definitely takes some getting used to but I'm picking up on it quickly. I just hang out in the left hand lane, "the slow lane." We are staying in a travel lodge about 30 minutes outside Dublin. With it being St. Patrick's Day weekend it was hard to find a reasonable priced hostel in the city center. Our first day out I forgot my phone in the lodge and wasn't able to take any pictures. But luckily Taylor and Alyssa both had theirs!
