Doug & Julie's Snow and Snorkel trip

14 August 2017

Relaxing on the tropical island of Aitatuki - claimed to one of the most beautiful in the world. It's certainly spectacular with turquoise blue lagoon waters warm enough to swim in for hours. Befriended a couple (David and Amanda) from Brisbane who we discovered were on their honeymoon and were married on 8 August (36 years after us)! We're heading into town to explore this afternoon and off on a lagoon cruise tomorrow.
The gorgeous waters right outside our door!

Hi from gorgeous Rarotonga - days are very relaxed here, just what we needed with lots of time to reflect on the past week and dear Dad's life. What an amazing turnout and show of love for Dad his funeral was. Dad would have loved the fish here - so many and an enormous variety all within a stones throw of our room.

A restful day in beautiful Wanaka. Sleep in after yesterday's skiing adventure, followed by a walk into town for brunch (Waffles with caramelised banana and free range bacon - yum!!). Then a couple of quiet hours to prepare the Eulogy for Dad's funeral - a precious time for thoughtful reflection - while the girls walked for many kms. Ken spent the day skiing at Treble Cone - looking a bit stuffed until revived with a Pale Ale! About to have a dine-in treat - BBQ butterfly lamb marinated in Manuka honey with toast veggies, washed down by a Pegasus Bay pinot. I'm on dishes tonight - heaps of them courtesy of Julie - but well worth it!

A great day on the slopes at Cardmona out of Wanaka - blue skies, a beaut field, some expert tuition by Ken followed by a back to the basics pro lesson. Only one (ok 2) stacks - one at the end of the day on what felt like a black diamond run - as following Ken, could well have been! Back to our winery digs followed by Hot bath, Bluff oysters and a nice Savvy from Pegasus Bay - doesn't get better!!

30 July 2017

Sunday a big drive from St Arnaud to Fairlie following the Southern Alps covered in snow under a beautiful clear blue sky. Lots of time to swap What's App messages and contemplate Dad' funeral arrangements so ably being organised by Margie, Jan & John.

29 July 2017

A lovely evening with Susie, Ken, Sammie, Luke, David and Shannon - with a memorial toast to Peter. Next morning beaut view from the penthouse and then a quick visit to see David's house and then Sammie's- great to see them getting all set up. On the ferry to Picton - a smooth crossing with blue skies and then a drive to the Alpine Lodge in St Arnaud for an overnight stop. A big day thinking about Dad and his funeral arrangements- an amazing job being done by John and Jan.
Saturday enjoyed seeing David & Shannon's place and then Sammie & Luke's place. Then onto the ferry into Picton - a smooth crossing and beautiful through the Sounds.

A sad day with dear Dad dying this morning. But lovely to be in contact with family to share grief and reflect on a special man. A walk along the beautiful NZ coastline Pukera Bay near Wellington did wonders for the soul. Looking forward to a lovely family dinner tonight with Susie & Ken, Sammie & Luke and David & Shannon. RIP Peter William Myers a special husband, father, father in law, Papa and friend.
