I love this place in every season. But I am looking forward to paddling the full 8 miles of river this spring!
Downriver past the dells, I could hear the gurgle of the water beneath my feet, each step echoing through the ice.
The sheets of ice didn’t form over the entire river and broke where the current was still strong.
After sliding down one bluff and taking a nasty bruise to the thigh, I was thankful I had strapped crampons onto my pack. They made the rest of the ice hike painless.
Hiking upstream lead me to this: a frozen waterfall. I had to pick my way carefully, following a deer path across the ice.
After the bitter cold of the last weeks, it was a perfect day for hiking and breaking new trail.
