Daisy's Easter in Nógrád County, Hungary

3 April 2018

Had some downtime at a cafe in Balassagyarmat with a view of an interesting statue.

2 April 2018

Ice cream break before heading back for the evening.
Ate my first langos!
Went back to the castle because it was sunny. Took a super muddy path up there. Oops! Worth it, though, as they had medieval music, small events, and goodies like swords. I can only imagine what their Castle Days look like!
Bought a handmade bookmark. Crocheted? I don't know these kinds of handicraft terms.
Bought a pretty yellow mug from the pottery house. Each mug had a unique design, so it was difficult to choose!
Bought honey with honeycomb, not from the shop I intended but from a honey stand where I could taste test.
Bought 3 kinds of homemade soap. What can I say? I like soaps.
Another day in Hollókő, this time sunny!

1 April 2018

Late lunch at the same restaurant as before. Still delicious!
Need to buy some honey with honeycomb here.
Worth the hike, even in the chilly rain and vicious wind.
A small show of the boys throwing water at the girls - guests included. Tomorrow is the big water event, though.
Visited Kalácsos bakery.
The museum about local living is worth a look.
The postal museum was nice, especially since Iike stamps.
Doll museum was small but ok. I'm not a fan of dolls, though.
The cheese here is nice, but expect to spend a bit if you want a hunk of it.
Ate my first rétes, a Hungarian sweet. I had one with cottage cheese, and the lemon taste it also had was delicious.
Visited a display of old schoolhouse items.
Beautiful pictures on the wall to admire while you have coffee or tea.
Got to do my own old-fashioned printing of the Hollókő church!
Small but beautiful church

31 March 2018

Great dinner with very good portion sizes.
Went on the geological tour at the nature reserve in Ipolytarnóc. Wish I could have stayed all day!
A pretty Catholic church where I attended mass twice, once on Good Thursday and once on Good Friday.
A nice evangelical church
A castle that now is a museum to local history.
Old town wall
Fire tower in Szécény.

30 March 2018

The small castle/palace is going to be under renovation eventually.
Burial place of the artist Benczúr Gyula.
Went on a nice hike up a hill that was lined with images of Christ from his arrest to resurrection. Beautiful view at the top.
