Charlie's and Veronika in Central America

10 December 2016

Leteli jsme s United aerolinkami. Letadlo bylo skoro prazdne, takze jsme meli spousty mista. Filmy byly zadarmo, dostali jsme najist, deku i polstar. Paradni 13 hodinovy let. Leteli jsme s nima do Kuala Lumpur v Malajsii a pak do Melbournu, oboji nocni let takze jsme se moc nevyspali.

9 December 2016

So we managed to get on our new flight first to San Francisco. They tried to tell us we need visa for Shangai at first but then they looked it up and said we can get it when we get there. Arrived on time and made it to our connection to Shangai. We were flying with United airline. Plane was pretty much empty so not that we had lots of space, there was free TV to watch,we got free food and drinks, blanket, pillows. It was amazing 13 hrs. In Shangai we spent about 3 hours waiting as our flight number was wrong so they had to check the details with our Airline Air Asia. We got on the the flight but this airline is basically long distance Ryanair so you have to pay for everything. We flew with them to Kuala Lumpur and then Melbourne both night flights so we didn't get much sleep. We had 13 hours layover in Kuala Lumpur which we didn't managed to hold ourselves with staying awake. The time zone changing was hard to figure our when we need to sleep. But we made it to Melbourne!!! But it's cold

6 December 2016

Sli jsme udelat check in a tam ta sranda zacala. Byli jsme nastvany a unaveny. Kontaktovali jsme firmu, pres kterou mame letenky a po 3. hodinach nam poslali novou letenku na druhy den bez zadneho extra poplatku. Nastesti tohle se stalo ve Vegas a my spali u Amber. :)

5 December 2016

Sunday we were woken up at 4am to a security telling that we couldnt sleep on the floor anymore. So we checked in.This is where the fun started. The airline were telling us that we need a visa for USA.We told them we dont as we were only there for 2 hours. After making phone calls and getting a group of 5 staff members they said it was ok. Then when we went to board, they had the same problem. So eventually we got on the plane that was 'on time' we took off 1hr late. When we landed we asked for help to tell the other airline to say that we would be late. After running everywhere and across the airport with big bags. The officer helped us to get through asap. More so than the airport staff did.We got through with our bags and got to the new check in desk.We had missed it.We were heartbroken. So we contacted the company we booked flight with and after 3hrs they sent us new flight details for the next day with no extra cost. Luckily this happened in Vegas and we stayed with Amber. :)

4 December 2016

Sunday was our last day in Mexico and Central America. For breakfast we had some chillaquiles (tortilla square chips with spicy sauce and meat). We the walked around eating anything we saw that we haven't tried yet. Then we met with Lisa again who was in Mexico city. Had some more food and then showed Lisa the bakery. We then headed to the airport as we fly early and will sleep there. / Nedele byl nas posledni den v Mexiku a Stredni Americe. 3 December 2016

Saturday we got up and had some breakfast from a old lady selling some dumplings filled with meat and rice pudding drink. We then went to the main square and saw some fantastic buildings. We found a market that was insainly busy with a huge amount of xmas decorations. We also found a huge bakery. After dinner we walked through the main square and realised that they were turning on the xmas lights. So we stayed to watch and it was even a little bit cold so felt close to home. On the way back we also came across some memorizing drummers with 70 or 80 people dancing. They were from a mexican tribe and were teaching people to pray and dance. Nasli jsme trhy, ktere byly plne lidi a vanocni dekorace.A taky velkou pekarnu.Pak jsme videli rozsviceni stromecku a samany tancovat.
Friday we got the bus from Oaxaca to Mexico City. The journey was 6.5 hours. (Real time 8.5) Along the journey we saw some breathtaking views of mexico with some huge cactuses. Once we arrived we got the metro and walked to our hostel. When we got there we were told that they had cancelled our booking and 'emailed us.' We then found a new hostel and walked there. We were in a very noisy and busy street where we realised that it was a Friday night. So we went for some food and went to bed. / V patek jsme vyrazili autobusem z Oaxaca do Mexico city. Sli jsme najit neco k jidlu a do postele.

2 December 2016

Pak jsme jeli konecne do krasneho barevneho domova. A nastal cas na vareni! Uvarili jsme vyborne veci. Nejdriv jsme zacali s plnenyma paprikama syrem, cuketovyma kytkama a kobylkama... ano kobylkama! Potom jsme udelali omacku na kure z chilli papricek. Nejlepsi bylo guacamole. Take jsme si vyrobili vlastni tortily v pressu a usmazili na grilu. :)

Then driven to a market to choose some ingredients and we had lots of samples. We could spent a week alone at this huge market as it's one of the biggest one in Mexiko. Then headed to their beautiful colourful family home. Then it was time for cooking! We cooked some amazing things. We started by cooking stuffed peppers with local cheese zucchini flowers and Crickets....yes crickets. After that we made a pepper sauce to acompany some chicken. The best was the guacamole which was amazing. We also made our own tortillas in tortilla maker and fried it. For dessert we had some plantain with condensed milk. We then went to another market and had toastadas and ice cream. :)

30 November 2016

Wednesday we got to Oaxaca city at 6 am. So we waited at the bus station and then walked to hostel. Left our bags there and headed straight to Hierve el agua. Had to take a collectivo taxi and then big of road van. It was a beautiful place. Amazing view, about 30° C, cool blue water and petrified waterfalls that looked like being inside cave, but it was outside. When we got back we went to get some food from a market stall and tried to book a night bus to Mexico city. We ended up a little lost and realised that we were in the middle of the dodgy red light district. Whoops!/ Ve stredu jsme dorazili do Oaxaca city v 6 rano. Pockali jsme az bude svetlo na nadrazi a vyrazili do naseho hostelu.Nechali jsme si tam tasky a vyrazili k Hierve el agua. Museli jsme jet kolektivnim taxikem a pak dodavkou. 29 November 2016

Tuesday we started off with doing some research about things to come. We also had another walk round San Cristobal and the amazing markets before we took a night bus to Oaxaca city. The bus was very comfy and we even managed to sleep on the bus. / V utery jsme zacali sen s planovanim. Monday was our deserved relaxing day in San Cristobal after 2.5 days of traveling. We got up late, cooked breakfast, went to do our laundry, skyped with our family and then went to explore the town. We found amazing food stands with tacos and Mexican sandwiches for lunch. We walked around all of San Cristobal churches (about 5). This town is full of colour and with the sunshine really place to be. Later we went to book our bus ticket to Oaxaca and get dinner. Lovely day. Vstali jsme pozdeji, uvarili si snidani, sli si vyprat, skypli s rodinou a sli prozkoumat mesto. Pozdeji jsme sli zarezervovat autobus do Oaxaca a na veceri. Super den. :)
On Sunday morning we took another bus to San Cristobal. We had to change in Ocosingo. It took about 5 hours to get to our final destination and it was painful. The road was very bumpy, lots of speed bumps and we sat at the back which is the worst place. We found our hostel and went to get late lunch and walk around the town. When we got back to hostel we could finally relax. We went to bed really early in the end to catch up on sleep. / V nedeli rano jsme nasedli na dalsi autobus do San Cristobal. Presedli jsme v Ocosingo. Trvalo to kolem 5 hodin do nasi finalni destinace a bylo to bolestnych 5 hodin. Nakonec jsme sli do postele brzo, abychom ten spanek dohnali.

26 November 2016

On Saturday our aim was to get to town Palenque in Chiapas state in Mexico. First we got a bus to the border. Crossing border was pretty easy. One mistake we did this time was that we didn't exchange any money to Mexican Peso because we thought there will be people exchanging money on the other side and that the guy we spoke is fucking is over. So Charlie had to cross the border back to get Pesos. Bus was leaving in more than hour so we asked some family. They went to Tenosique, town on the way so we got a ride. It was such a sweet family. From Tenosique we got another bus and finally arrived in Palenque. Found cheap hotel across the road and tried our Mexican street food. A pak busem do Palenque.
On Friday due to a Hurricane that was near Nicaragua and Costa Rica this meant that it was raining all day. Due to this we decided to not go to a Jaguar Preserve as the campsite was closed. We decided to leave Hopkins and try and hitchhike to the Guatemala border. This worked! A total of 7 cars meeting some amazing people. The spanish man who spoke no English and shouted Big Bus as we were from London alot and British good, American bad. And the Truck driver Thomas who pulled over when he saw us getting a ride on the back of a truck in heavy rain and took us in his truck.Stayed in Flores. Pres celou Belize jsme jeli stopem. Celkem 7 aut a svezli jsme se super lidma. Thomas, ridic nakladaku, ktery zastavil, kdyz nas videl sedet v zadu dodavky v desti, aby nas vzal do jeho nakladaku kde neprsi.Prespali jsme v Flores.

24 November 2016

Thursday we got a lift to seaside town Hopkins with Ryan and Sarah. We stopped on the way for some lunch but arrived just in time for a quick swim in the sea before the sun went and the rain came. We then bought some food and cooked in our hostel. Belize is very expensive country, everything in the shop is imported. Koupili jsme si veceri a uvarili si v hostelu.
Kdyz jsme dorazili zpet, dostali jsme obed s rumovym koktejlem. Byl to skvely den, neuveritelna unikatni zkusenost a spousta srandy s nasi skupinou a pruvodcema. :)
On Wednesday we got picked up at 7 for our tour to famous ATM caves in Belize. We gathered everyone and before we headed off they gave us a briefing about the day. When we got there we first had to swim over river and walk through river 3x to get to the entrance of the cave. We got our helmets and lights and swam to the cave. We spent most of the time walking or swimming through the water and climbing narrow places. When we got to the dry chamber saw lots of artefacts - Mayan pottery and human sacrifices to the rain god. Everything was only what water uncovered so sometimes we would see bones, skulls or whole skeleton. It was unreal, so amazing to see and hear about the history. When we got back we got nice lunch with rum punch. It was fantastic day, such a unique experience and we had so much fun with our group and guides. :)

22 November 2016

We left Flores with Lisa and Eddie on Tuesday morning and got a collective bus to the border with Belize. Crossing the border was easy and we all managed to get a lift to San Ignacio, little town about 30 mins away. Lisa and Eddie carried on to the seaside and we found a campsite only across the road. We didn’t do much for the rest of the day just went around the town and booked a tour for tomorrow. We also cooked a veggie dinner as we had vegetable deficit. :-) V utery jsme opousteli Flores mestecko s Lisou a Eddiem a jeli jsme autobusem k hranici s Belize. Prechod pres hranici byl bez problemu a podarilo se nam sehnat odvoz do mesta San Ignacio. Lisa s Eddiem pokracovali k mori a my jsme nasli kemp jen pres ulici. Taky jsme si uvarili zeleninove spagety jelikoz jsme meli deficit.

20 November 2016

On Saturday we took a trip to famous Semuc Champey. Decided not to get a guided tour as it included things like tubing on river which we've already done. Walking around the park was easy so we went to see the view point and then hiked down to have a swim in the famous beautiful turquoise water pools on the river. It was chilly water but nice after the sweaty hike up.We spent the day with Lisa, american girl we met on the bus before. We got transport back at 1ish and went to see the market and get dinner in Languin. We all did some research together about next places as we had the same plans./ V sobotu jsme jeli na vylet do znameho Semuc Champey. He said he was going to go to San Pedro, same as us. We got the very fast and bumpy boat over. We walked round the streets and had a walk by the lake. It was nice to wander around with not having to get a bus or find a hostel, and without our bags. We then sat down on a beach and talked untill we had to get the boat back. For dinner we went to an amazing place that was very cute. The food was amazing and the best was the Banna curry soup, Yum! 9 November 2016

Wednesday we said goodbye to Ometepe island and got the ferry then jumped in a chicken bus. (A chicken bus is a old US school bus and your jammed in like chickens) So after a very painful hour we arrived at Masaya. The streets here have no names displayed so makes it more fun to find where you are. Even the locals can't point on a map where we are. We eventually found our hostel. We then headed off to see the mighty volcano. We drove right to the top and peered into the heart of the volcano. We could see the Lava very clearly and the photos dont do it justice. We can only spend 15 mins due to the sulphur it gives off. We both left with a huge smile and amazement.

8 November 2016

So on Tuesday we decided to hire a Motorbike or scooter. Half of the island is not tarmac we got a off road motorbike. Charlie had a quick lesson on how to change gear and then we set of. It was lovely to drive around and we drove through some old villages. We stopped for a quick swim in the lake. After a few km off the tarmac road the bike slid out from beneth us and we fell of. We had a few scratches and cut but were both fine. The bike was quite scratched and we had to end up paying 170 USD. But we were both ok and thats the main thing. We had to move hostel so we chose one near the ferry to make it easier for the next morning. Zvladli jsme to az nahoru!. Nicmene kolem vrcholku byl mrak, takze vyhled odtamtud nebyl a dovnitr do krateru nebylo videt. Po ceste jsme videli cerne opicky a opicky s bilim oblicejem. Take tarantuli a jesterky. Veronika mela steak a Charlie kure. :)
On Monday we went to hike Volcano Conception. We got picked up at 6 introduced to our guide. First part was flat walk, second part was going up through the jungle on a narrow path. When we got to the view point it was all open area with beautiful view. The rest was walking on little stones which was very difficult as sit was slippery. We made it to the top! Although there was cloud over the top so we couldnt see the view anymore and couldnt see the crater. On the way we saw lots of howler monkeys and white faced monkeys, tarantula and lizzards. The guide was telling us about plants and animals which wa really nice. Both of us managed to get sunburnt. In the evening we went to town to go to supermarket and we also popped into local restaurant where we had lovely hearty typical Nicaraguan meal. It was Gallo pinto (rice with beans) with plantain, salad and Veronika had steak and Charlie chicken. All that with drinks for about $6. Just all we needed after the hard hike. :)
Rekli nam ze mame zaplatit v jedne budove, ktera nevypadala oficialne. Tak jsme sli do oficialni budovy. Ty nam rekli,ze musime zaplatit jedne masine, ktera nefungovala, tak jsme museli jit zpet do te budovy. Zaplatili jsme $14 a sli ke kontrole. Pak jsme museli dojit do jine kancelare, kde jsme zaplatili $1 za razitko. A pak jeste $24 za vstup do Nicaragua. Nastal ale jeden problem, nemeli jsme dostatek penez a jediny bankomat nefungoval. Byli jsme nahrany... diky bohu, lidi vedle nas nan dali ty penize, ktere jsme potrebovali. Pak jsme chteli jet autobusem dal, ale nemeli jsme $2, tak jsme museli jet taxikem, ktery nas vzal do bankomatu a k pristavu. Jeden taxik jsme odrekli jelikoz nemeli zadnou oficialni znacku. Dorazili jsme do ho

So we got the bus from La Fortuna and 5 hours later we arrived at the border. On arrival we had 10 people shouting at us to change money. We were told to pay at a random booth. We then decided to go the official place. They then sent us to the machine to pay. That didnt work so we had to go to the booth. We then paid $14 then headed to customs. Then we went to another office and paid $1 then we had to pay to enter Nicaragua $24. We then had one problem we had no more cash. We then went to the only ATM which didnt work. On Saturday we had very nice breakfast, eggs with Gallo pinto. We took a bus to Arenal volcano but decided not to pay for entering the park because it was cloudy and we wouldn't be able to see the volcano anyway. Then we walked to find free hot springs. We found it and it turned out to be amazing. It was basically a warm river that gets warm from the volcano (natural jackuzzi). It was just lovely to sit and relax in the river. We got bus back and booked hostel for another night in La fortuna town. :) / V sobotu jsme meli moc dobrou snidani, vajicka s ryzi a fazolemi. On Monday morning we decided to stay one more night in Gaudys hostel. We couldn't find where to see Costa Rican Halloween so we went for wonder around the city centre and try to get cheap phone for me. We also walked through the local market and got food from supermarket. Everything is a challenge as we dont understand and cant speak spanish. We spent lot of time figuring out how anything works in this country especially transport. Nothing is as easy as in Europe and USA so it will take time to get hang of it.

The flight was fine and we got some free food on the flights.Once we arrived we got picked up from the airport and went to our hostel which was very nice. We then went for a walk and grabbed some food from a fast food place. A German girl sat next to us and so we invited her to join.
