Carolyn's adventure in New Zealand

5 March 2017

Before heading back to Palmerston North we stopped at Huka falls, Craters of the Moon geothermal park, and a natural hot spring we all got to relax in before the ride back.

Saturday afternoon we drove back to Taupo and climbed Mt. Tauhara- a 1,088 meter volcano! While the hike was exhausting the view was worth it.
Saturday morning we drove to Rotarua to go down the luge. We rode the gondola to the top of the mountain and got a beautiful view of the city. I had never even heard of a luge, so I was in for quite a surprise. You sat in what looked like a mini go cart, they quickly taught you how to stop, go, and turn and you were off to different paths down the mountain. I bought 3 rides so we did the scenic route, the intermediate, and even decided to try advanced! Once you made it to the bottom you'd take a ski lift to the top and go again. Proud (and somewhat surprised) to say I never crashed or fell off 👍

A group of us rented out a lake house between Taupo and Rotarua. The sunset and stars were beautiful! For the weekend a group of us international students rented a couple cars and went away for the weekend! We barbecued one night, played lots of games, and enjoyed the beautiful views right outside our front door!
Got to visit the "worlds coolest McDonald's" or Maccas as the kiwis call it! They had an old plane turned into a dining area you could climb into to eat.

The beautiful foxton beach for the day followed fish n chips (which with a kiwi accent sounds more like fush n chups) at Mr. Grumpys takeaway

My home away from home for the semester at Massey University in Palmerston North 🇳🇿 My dorm reminds me more of a little cabin in the woods, but not a far from classes, and only a short bus ride to the small city of Palmerston North
