B+L in training

3 April 2018

Somebody better get packing.
Last training “run” on the best hill we could find. Florida is so flat.

The packing. Osprey rucksacks are fantastic!! we’ve tested them pretty full on a couple big walks. But then there’s all this other stuff we are figuring out.

I will admit a little getting a little nervous about the climbs - working my legs, feet and equipment are only part of the training. I need to have had more cardio. Oh boy. Day 2 and day 4 of the hike are the toughest from the roller coaster standpoint - and that’s before The Devils Staircase.

Ouch. Learning how to treat blisters
Broke up the walk home from LBK by a)having Do drive us to Publix and B) lunch and Guinness on St Armand’s Circle. Easy peasy day. Except for the stiff knees and blisters.

Donita drove out to join us for sunset and stew. She brought the drinks. Nice.
Wait what?
Arrived at the best B&B anywhere. And boots off, whiskey, feet up are heavenly. We walked over 13 miles with full packs today. The last mile wasn’t pretty but we did it.
Two short breaks over 8 miles and 72 degrees and sunny. Testing gear so far so good. Shoulders and neck hurt and need breaks. Bruce’s knee is less stiff when continuous walking. Feeling good though at 3 hours in. And a little over half way today.

We started our long distance walking training in oct 2017 when we blocked the vacation time. We started walking weekends at Nathan Benderson Park - a 3.3 mile loop around a rowing lake that you can see all the way around.
