Kandy Part II: Last stop before going home. We stay directly at the lake so it is easy to visit the tooth temple with its work elephants and the city center. One highlight of our trip was the visit of Helga's Folly with great drawings and pictures on the wall.

Sigirya: first time pool on our journey: that has to be enjoyed! However also the Pidurangala wanted to be climbed so we did on day two. Perfect view into the green jungle and to Sigirya Rock.
Kandy Part I: transfer from the Adam's Peak to Kandy with Tuktuk. Arriving in Kandy we went immediately to the marvelous Botanical Garden and got impressed by a stunning choice of plants.

YES WE DID IT:starting at 2 am we climbed 5200 stairs and 1000 metres to the top of Adam's Peak for sunrise. Pretty exhausting and cold though.
Despite fog we had a great view!
TukTuk tour through never-ending tea plantations from train station Hatton to Delhouse, the bottom of Adam's peak.
Another beautiful train ride from Nuwara Eliya to Hatton.

Trip from Ella to Nuwara Eliya by train: our first train ride in Sri Lanka was already very impressive. The old lokomotive winds up the hills through tea plantations and little villages to around 1800 meter before it goes down again to Nuwara Eliya. All in all it took us approx 3 hours full of exploring the nature through the window or by hanging out the open train door.
Arriving in Nuwara Eliya we took the beloved tuktuk to Blue Field Tea Factory and had a nice tour through. Now we know how the tea comes from the field in our cups.
Ella is known for impressive tea plantations and the beautiful train ride. However, we found it also as a hiking town. On the first day we had the training hill which is called Little Adam's Peak. You have quite a good view from up there to the beautiful valley, the city itself and the curvy road down south. And to the next days target - the Ella Rock. Climbed it in not even 2 hours with Lila and Kevin from America and had a stunning view again.

Getting up at 5.30 in the morning is really hard. Even harder when you are on vacation. However, if you are looking forward seeing crocodiles, elephants, beautiful birds and many other animals it's worth it. Doing a morning game drive in Udawalawe national park is a perfect opportunity to see the great flora and fauna of Sri Lanka.

Today was transfer day: we had to say goodbye from the beloved beach and went by tuktuk to Matara where we took the bus to Udawalawe. Bus drivers have suicidal tendencies here which was shown by highspeed overtaking in curves and duelling with opposing traffic. In the end we were rewarded with an room upgrade and supernice neighbours from Germany (love also beer and music - fits perfectly).

After almost 24 hours of travelling we reached the Rathna Guesthouse at Dalawella beach. For the rest of the day we are enjoying our couch on the balcony and the beautiful beach in front of the door!
