Lyon, make a stop before heading South

14 September 2017

So, last day and some time to kill before taking the train. Close to the train station Part-Dieu, there is an inside market 'Les halles'. Not a regular market, but nice shops which only sell local delicasies. Ideal to take some home. 😉

Day 3, and still lot's to see! I started of with a walk through 'Parc de la tête d'or'. A parc/botanical garden/zoo. (Free admission) After i wanted to really see the 'Musée des confluences'. The architecture is worth seeing, as is the surroundings on the island. The museum itself is amazing. Really a museum of the future. (Included in LCC) A place worth spending some time in. At noon i even ate my picknick by the riverside. Then i had a guided tour planned through the old town (included in LCC). It takes you through les traboules, old passages under and in between flats. After that i still had some time, so i visited the museum of miniatures and cinema. A fun museum. You can see lots of props and special effects stuff, all of them the real stuff. So no replica's. I quite enjoyed that!

Day 2, and a lot more things to do. I decided to be really touristy, and took the Lyon Citytram. (Also included in LCC) The nice thing is it takes you on a tour of 1 hour through Croix-Rousse. That's a big area to cover by foot, so the one hour tour is ideal if you're only a few days in Lyon. The Croix-Rousse is a artistic and alternative neighbourhood, with artisan shops. After that i wanted to eat at a traditional Bouchon Lyonais. So that's what i did. I chose 'Les 3 cochons. My meal was: salad with pigs ears, followed by intestants in mustardsauce accompanied of potatoepie. After all not bad, but a one time experience will be enough. ;) After that i had planned a meeting with a greeter. That's someone who takes you on a stroll through his town, completely voluntarily. A great way to discover a town!

First day in Lyon. I already searched some info before going. So it was quickly decided to buy a LyonCityCard. Acces is included to public transport, museums, guided tour,... I bought one for 3 days, it saved me over €20. Just a tip. ;) On arrival i went to get information at the tourist office. They are very helpfull in making an itinerary for your stay. So on the first day i went for the 'Visites insolites'. That's a guided tour that takes you to the roof, yes the roof, of the Basilique de Fourvière. Expect amazing views! To get to the Basilique, you can use the Funiculaire, a 150 year old public transport.
